So if he was using fireknockown and torso shot, then there's no way he could be a master pistoleer.
I'm not sure what "gut shot" is though, perhaps that is underhand shot? also, are you sure he used fireknockdown on you?
Both fireknockdown and torso shot are located at the level 4 box of carbine and pistol respectively. So my guess is that the master pistoleer tag was a bug. It was a good fight either way, I was just bored and wanted to try and clear up everything.
I assumed it was FIreKD because I was set afire. As someone else stated, torso shot also causes this effect.
Fireknockdown is a levelIII BH carbine shot that is a KD with no flame dot.
torsoshot is a Level IV BH pistol shot that has a flame dot.
torso shot sets you on fire.
fireKD is a knockdown and against a pure rifleman, this shot will put you on your ass.

Thanx for the info. Any idea what the "Gut Shot" special is?
Most of my PvP kills come from using headshot2, unbuffed. If the situation is fairly chaotic, you can pounce on stragglers and headshot them to incap pretty quick. Doing mind damage prevents them from easily being able to heal themselves. If there are organized ranks or large numbers, doing a flushing2 and flurry2 before moving on to the strafe2's works well, especially if you have some backup with you that can take advantage of the state changes.
As long as you are careful and play to your strengths, you can maintain a good kills/deaths ratio. CM mind poison and eyeshot can be a problem, however. Other than those, a player with a profession list optimized for ranged defense (Master Rifleman, 4xxx TKA, 4xxx Fencer for example; might be other combos) is virtually invulnerable; but the devs have said that templates like that are going to be fixed (notice I didn't say nerfed).
