Thread: Bring Back 1.5 PvP Damage Modifier!
I know a lot of people are going to flame me for saying this, but I think they need to bring back the 1.5 damage modifier for Rifleman aganst melee combatants in PvP. Rifleman are snipers and long distance combatants and have no business being in close proximity in PvP, which is Pistoleer/Carbineer territory...........
I'm a big time PvP'er and I'm watching rifleman run into close quarters combatwithout fear of retribution when by rights of the profession, should be out at a distance picking off enemies from afar........thats what riflemando, everything about rifleman lead to being a sniper who rely on stealth and their ability to kill at a distance, but instead I've been seeing rifleman taking charge up close without any fear of being taken out up close with Ion rifle in hand..............I think the nerf with the 1.5 damage mod needs to come back so that people play this profession like its supposed to be played and have the fear of getting owned up close return..........it would also limit the class to people who actually enjoy playing theprofession like it should, from a distance.............
When the damage mod was around, I saw maybe 1-2 Master Rifleman in a day of 8 hours of play, now I see 1-3 Masters every 20 minutes...............its the flavor of the month and it wouldn't be in the mod was back in......
First off, we had a x2.5 melee dmg modifier. And that sucked rocks.
That being said, I can see your point and maybe a x1.5 modifier would prevent us from being the flavor of the month. Although, you will still see some "uber" PvP types with 90%+ Composite along with Doctor and Musician buffs running into short range. But that really cannot be helped much. Those are they type of people who like to play a Battle Mage in fantasy games. Strange, yes. Non-standard, yes. Fun, yes. If it works for them, let em enjoy it. ![]()

good point, considering only melee people are the ones complaining about us. If we can't kill them before the 15m lunge range then we should die every time. This is just not the case. Because of that you get little immature kids getting rifleman to spam PWND J00 over and over at your friends, who inturn yell at you for being a rifleman. I've been this path since day 1, and it took me two months to master, using an e11 on dant.
But give us a rifle butt thing or a bayonette charge, something to make us at least have something for PVE at close range. I'm just so tired of hearing TKM's whine about it
I started out with rifleman shortly after the T21 nerf, stuck with it through the 2.5x melee damage modifier, been beat down by many commandos with just flame cone 2 or better yet being shot by rocket for over 2k of damage (both of these weapons counted as melee too). I've heard the brawlers complain about kiting (you're dumb if you followed to begin with) so now they can attack from 20m+ (that's over 65 feet and if you think that they can only hit at 10m that is 32 feet), KD you and pull one to two hits on you for incap thanks to the on the ground double damage (back before the recent patch it was 4.5x thanks to having a rifle equipped). I've been beat down by bounty dabblers who ran with grauls and hid while their pet smacked me for over 1k of damage in one shot.
To hear any talk of bringing back some sort of damage modifier for melee makes me rather upset. I'm a rifleman, this is my weapon of choice. Many countries train soldiers to use their rifles not only for range but also melee attacks. Pistoleers in this game are allowed to pistol whip players/npcs/creatures and yes carbineers and rifleman should too. If they are to bring back some sort of modifier they should give us rifle smack down or bayonet to skewer those who charge.
As for the "flavor of the month" this will always happen as players are now chasing holo dreams of making jedi. Also, thanks to the great setup we have anybody can take the best defense/offense from many combat lines to make up an uber pvp character. For those of you upset of the "I PWNZ J00" just wait until jedi run around doing that. There isn't any stopping these kids from opening their fs slot and grinding to be saber toting brats.
"I've heard the brawlers complain about kiting (you're dumb if you followed to begin with)"
You're right. Maybe they should just stand there and take it instead. Or run away and let you follow them and shoot at them instead of the other way around. Either way, melees who get within range of a rifleman are doomed unless they can get close enough to fight back. I guess that's why they chase you... in a vain attempt to get close enough to actually do damage. Those dumb shmucks.
"so now they can attack from 20m+ (that's over 65 feet and if you think that they can only hit at 10m that is 32 feet)"
And you can run at a good 10mph non-stop without ever getting tired, shoot behind you, one handed, with a 9 pound rifle, and still manage to hit the target more than 10% of the time. But, I guess that's realistic. After all, we're all perfect physical specimens. Why, with that kind of body, we could probably rip a rancor in half with our bare hands. Or, you know... hit something from 20 meters away.
There is a lot wrong with rifleman, and indeed, every combat profession. And while I agree that the melee penalty should be removed for the time being, I disagree that it was one of the things wrong with rifleman. The only reason it should have been removed for now is because it's a disadvantage meant to balance outprofession advantages that are currently not working. If they ever make postures worth using, and finish rifleman so that we areone of the topanti-ranged professions in the game, then we should most definitely get our melee penalty back.
'Riflemen' and 'Snipers' dont belong in the same sentance!
You got the wrong profession mate. Rifleman is only 'SUPOSED' to be the kings of long range combat.
Fact is i cant 'SNIPE' any more than a person holding a pistol or carbine.
Ive been waitingto play a sniper profession and i can honestly say, i havnt experienced it yet.
I will carry on waiting now until rifleman or another profession orientates itself towards 'TRUE' sniper abilities/skills/tactics.

I disagree 100%. A rifle is a big stick that shoots fire, but you know you hit somebody in the head with the butt of a t-21 and it could do a little damage
perhaps they should give us something like pistol whip....
