Thread: Some of our stuff doesn't stack or even work. Hmm

Did some testing and found that the skills for melee/ranged defense that rifleman gets do not stack if he/she is not using a rifle. And block only stacks with the rifle or a polearm equiped. The block thing makes sense; however that, ranged/melee defense not stacking is BS. The testing was pretty conclusive.

How did you test whether ranged defense stacks ?

Post methodology andanalysis then, not just "i tested this and it doesn't work".

POKEY THE PENGUIN SIG REMOVED BY GARVA BECAUSE "Just because you are crafty enough to get around the technicality of it being a .jpg or .gif does not mean it is not an image, it is not ascii art, it is an image" SO HERE IS MY NEW SIG.

In reality, it Melee and Ranged defenses do stack. You can see a big difference in the amount of times you hit and miss someone. I dueled a Master Fencer/Master Rifleman with 0004 in TKA and I would say, in about 50 attacks, I must have hit him ~5 times. And I myself am a Master Fencer/Master Rifleman. So yes, they do stack, only defenses I'm aware of that don't stack is Dodge, Block, Counter-Attack. But your DvKD/Dizzy, etc. do still stack.

I honestly did not try the ranged defense stacking. I tried the melee defense stacking (I have TKA and rifleman) and I found that when I'm not using the rifle, NONE of the rifleman defense seem to turn on.

If you think your defense are stacking, go use an odd weapon you have no defense skill in using(like a carbine) and see how often some mob clocks you. Then test with your rifle equiped. The difference is night and day.

Seems to me that if you wanted to test stacking you would use one of the skills that has the ability

if you have

Rifle
Fencer
TKA

then why would you test without one of those weapons enabled? i sure in the hell wouldnt use a carbine.

currently TKM and Rifle 2,3,0,4 and i notice that i dont get hit as much as i was.

there ARE strange things with stacking with tka (dunno about tkm, but with tka there seems to be).

i'm master rifle, master fencer, tka 0304.

if i hold a rifle in pve, i rarely get hit. if i hold a fencer weapon and turn on cob, i rarely get hit. if i go unarmed, i get hit a LOT more.

this is melee defense - i haven't tested this with ranged pve opponents.

I haven't test range, but as I said, the melee is NOT stacking. The rifleman stuff is not stacking if you use anything else but a rifle. I was curious to see the benefit of taking polarm+rifleman so I've been testing this stuff as I get bored with my Jedi. =P In any case, that's BS ranged/melee bonus doesn't stack for rifleman and I bet it does for pistoleer, a story as old as time for riflemen..

weird, well it seems to be working for me.

I know on my swordsman it has two-handed melee defense instead of melee defense. does pikeman also have this or is it straight melee defense?

i bet they will change all of this in the near future so everything is unique (Unarmed Melee D, Rifle Melee D, Pistol Melee D, Etc...) that way all these ubertemplates will go byebye and everyone will get to choose what they want to play. wont be any issues with stacking then.

I'm not worried about the polearm defense stacking, not the melee/ranged defenses anyway. I'm just taking that to stack up on block, which DOES stack at least. It just annoys me that the rest does not.

I believe what you are seeing is the penalty that replaced 2.5x melee damage working in reverse.

People using heavy weapons or ranged weapons are meant to be easier to hit by melee under the new system right? Well using my launcher pistol it seems I'm easier to hit than when I'm using a flamethrower or E11.

I think that when the increased chance to hit someone holding a rifle was put in it was mistakenly reversed, so now you have better melee defence when using a rifle or heavy weapon in melee rather than a large penalty.

Agree. Note, this was not the case a week or two ago. Only noticed a big change recently. I get hit noticably less holding a Rifle than I do unarmed or with VK's equipped (TKM + MRifle). I get slapped around by Crazed Durnis (375 exp mobs at the moment) when holding a sword or anything other than a rifle/VK/unarmed.
