Thread: My first INTENTIONAL PvP experience

Just wanted to share a little story for those that are interested. It may also serve as a glimmer of hope for the Novice Rifleman out there working their way up the tree.

I've been a Master about a month now. I've never really intended to get into PvP.Those prior times was when I had a TEF and got dropped from behind. Being a Wookiee many probably figure I'm a fairly easy target and they are usually right.

Today I was running some faction missions from the Rebel Outpost on Rori. I've been wanting a promotion so that seemed like a good place to run them. I'd just returned from my last mission and was loading missions from the terminal. I was TEF'd of course. As Istart to head out I come under attack from behind. I was rather quickly dropped. No buffs, no armor, not on any food, and I had my DLT20a equipped.

Apparently there was an overt Imp in the base. Because of the TEF I was attackable and he showed blue on my radar. Oh well. Have to be more careful next time.

But this time I wanted to get him back. All those other times I had been strucken down without any real ability to retaliate gnawed at me. So I cloned, equipped my PSG, and popped some food. Then Iwent to the recruiter. The Imp was standing near by. About 30m. I quickly went overt and the battle began. I had switched to my Jawa Rifle as the person was in armor. I'm not to familar with armor so wasn't sure what kind. The battle commenced.

I started off strafing with the Jawa. I was constantly moving. The armored enemy had the title "Master Gunslinger" While I displayed my "Soldier" title with pride. I was hit with a Fire Knockdown and set aflame. Enraged by his actions Ikept up my assault. An angryWookiee is bad enough, but an enranged Wookiee on fire is even worse.Eventually my foe went down. I finished him off with a Sniper Shot then went out of the Outpost to find some water. I quenched the flames before serious damage was done. The stench of burnt hair filled the air mixing with the steam as I plunged in.

I headed back to the Outpost when the person cloned from where he had died. I believe this is the bug where if you can't clone at the location, which as an Imp he couldn't at the Rebel Outpost, he cloned in place. He had a fair amount of wounds. I kept watch on him and he went overt again.

This battle was much swifter than the last. My Jawa Rifle filled the air with its high pitch whine while his pistol kept up a steady pace of fire. Again he fell and Idispatched him from a distance.

This time I backed off to about 50m and waited. He arouse in the same spot again. But his time his wounds were grieves. He was at 25% or less. He did not go overt this time. Instead he limped back to the star port and caught the first available flight. I never let my eye leave him. My Jawa Rifle leveled at him the whole way.

In parting he sent me a message. "A Wookiee with dodge. =(" My prideful response. "I'm a Rifleman, not a Pistoleer. I dont have Dodge".

OOC :So that was my first real experience. The first time I was able to strike back at one that took me by surprise. I was obviously happy with the results. The Jawa excelled in its role. To the point that I was able to take down a BH/Pistoleer template without armor (except PSG) or buffs (he wasn't buffed either btw). I believe he thought I had a defensive template that had dodge. Maybe he mistook my Block (if it worked) for it. Or maybe my Mitigation III was the cause. Don't know.

But my template is Master Rifle, Novice Smuggler, with some Scout and Survey skill. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe he wasn't. Regardless it was nice to be able to strike back for once.

For all those Novices out there, Master is well worth it. Keep a variety of weapons at your disposal. A Jawa is highly recommended for those players in armor. Use powerups. They are generally cheap and can add a fair amount of damage. Food and drink are your friends. Personally I've never used spice. Some swear by them.

Hopefully with the comming food changes they will still be as useful as they are now.

Also wanted to thank all those other Riflemen out there that gave me the information that I needed. I learned of the Jawa's excellent reputation vs armor from these boards. There is lots of great info around this board. So thanx for every that has contributed. It does make a difference.

Congrats, did you go for the mind or ss2 route in the duel? And it is always nice to see a wook with a kill. You guys have it pretty bad. I mean don't get me wrong I pretty much can't wear armor with my stats (bothan with maxed mind leaves little for the encumb) but you can't wear armor.

I went back thru the combat spam today from the duel. Found something interesting. My first SniperShot was dodged. Do defenses still work while incapped?

Gets the blood pumping eh? fireknockdown is bounty hunter stuff so you didn't just take down a pistoleer, you took down a pistoleer/bh mutant.

if he was cloning in place and not at the nearest non-rebel aligned facilitie and if he was going overt in place he was also an exploiter.... i would have reported his sorry butt to a csr as well as killed him ...

Hey Waste, I was the other Rebel there last night. I loaded in the outpost with him, but was covert. The reason I hadn't engaged him by the time you fought him was I was setting things up for pvp because I wasn't at all prepared and he was camping the recruiter waiting on me. I was very proud of the way you took care of him. FYI, he is one of the imps that pvp's almost all the time from what I have seen, so when you took him down I wouldn't have believed you if you had told me it was your first "real" fight. BTW, he was buffed, he popped some neutron or something because he went from 400 to 1500 or so in his health and action right before the fight.

I left after you killed him, because I didn't know he could go overt again, so if he did that is definitely a bug/expoloit. And I noticed your sniper shot missed but he still died and thought that was interesting.

Congrats,

yep, defenses work when incapped - to extent, they don't seem nearly as high though.

i've been missed 3 times in a row with snipershot before, (haha.) i've alsomissed ppl 3 times in a row with snipershot myself.

if you're going to do the strafe2 thing, it's also nice to open with a flushingshot for the stunned status.

and - depending on the ham of your opponent, you might even be better off to use HS3. against a pistoleer in composite who wasn't buffed - Flushing2 and Strafe2 are definitely your better choice though.

(his ham costs in armor will be hard on health/action, strafe2 will hurt him greatly).

Drache,

Thanx for the info. I didn't realize he was buffed. I saw him camping the recruiter so I had to get in there quick to go overt. Overall it turned out well. Glad I was able to chase him away. He left with a lot of wounds.

fire knockdown is high up on the carbine line of BH though isn't it? Perhaps the master gunfighter tag was the bug, I know my friend still wear's his Master Bounty Hunter tag, even though he gave it up weeks ago.

So, what I'm saying, I thought that you could master pistoleer, then only have the skill points for the expert bh, which would not leave room for the carbine line. Of course I could be wrong.

Either way it was a great victory! Congrats Waste.

I feel for you poor Wookies. I hunted with my first wookie brawler the other day, and man was he getting hammered, I had to keep healing him. Hopefully you'll get some kind of armor bonuses for being a wookie in the future. Good luck

You can get level IV in a BH branch. He may have Mastered Pistoleer and taken just he Carbine line from BH. Then set up a macro to attack with FireKD, switch to pistol and continue firing. I'm also more inclined to believe this was his template as he never tried Eye Shot. As a Wookiee I would have had no counter to the Blind attack and being a Rifleman he would have hit the pool I was using for specials.

When I checked the combat spam he was using "Gut Shot" on me. I'm not familar with Pistol specials so I'm not sure what special that is. He also did a PistolWhip. But mostly the "Gut Shot".

I suppose it is possible that he got Carbine 4 instead of Pistols 4, but that seems kind of strange to me. Plus I think the "Fire" shot is "Torso Shot" which is in the pistol line I think. Which is why I was wondering, because if he had the Carbine 4 for the Fire KD, then there's no way he could have gotten Torso Shot along with master pistoleer. Perhaps a former BH will come in and help clarify. Maybe I have my "On Fire" BH shots confused.
