Thread: NPC Citizens
I think in order for our new cities to have any sort of life, we need to have NPC citizens walking the streets.
My number one request for cities, and this has been ongoing since beta, is the ability of Mayors to place NPCs and craft little phrases for them to say and little conversation trees to have.
We could make herald NPCs for our towns, and I can stop using half of my vendors as mission NPCs for my town's roleplaying and military segments.
Further, will NPC citizens begin spawning in towns as mission desitinations? And if so, will they hang around for a little while to make it look like someone lives here?
The Cities in Star Wars Galaxies has been blasted in the reviews of the game since launch for being sterile and lifeless, and this is WITH some NPCs wandering around (well, actually standing facing walls, but you get my point). Can you imagine Coronet with NO NPCS? Wow.

Ok I have seen discussions on stuctures, taxes, militia, and even faction bases, but I have yet seen a suggestion or a comment on NPC citizens. Will there be any if not , why not? Already NPC Cities are ghost towns from lack of PCs but will the PC Cities be worse? Will we have an option to add NPC citizens or will there be added to the area randomly depending on the level a city is at? Other than Terminals will there be NPCs with missions? Would the Devs be willing to rotate a NPC mission amoung the cities every week or every two weeks to get ppl to venture into these PC cities? I would love to see a unique mission NPC sprout up in my city making more ppl want to come to us even for a short time to do the unique mission or to get that really kool and rare item.
Any thoughts on this.

I like this very much. Tie some random NPC spawns to spawn sites that can be emplaced (and paid for out of the mayor's pocket?) would be nice too.

Yeah the Devs should link it to the size of your city and have them spawn around certain places that we mark for spawns so they don't spawn in buildings.

A certain number of NPC citizens spawn depending on the size of your city. They are not mission destinations, they are not nameable or customizable. They merely walk a set of randomly selected waypoints.
For a size 1 city, you get none.
Size 2: 2
Size 3: 5
Size 4: 10
Size 5: 20
Lag aside, is there any other major issues with this?

Where do these NPCs live? Seriously! In the NPC cities there are lots of houses explaining where they come from, but in the player cities all the houses are used by some player. So, this is what i suggest, you can make a playerhouse a NPC building:
Small house: Gives city 2 NPCs
Medium house: Gives city 4 NPCs
Large House:Gives City 6 NPCs
A house used by NPCs cannot be entered by anyone but the owner and his only options are to make it a PC building again and to pay maintanance.
