Thread: Sales tax not working?

I wanted to experiment with taxes a little yesterday so I turned on sales tax at 2%. I put some more items on a vendor and waited. Since that time the vendors I run (6 total) have sold over 2.5 million credits worth of items and the treasury has not grown. Am I missing a step? I thought it might be a glitch that would be fixed by server reset but that doesn't appear to be the case. Has anyone else seen this? I had plans for sales tax to be a big part of city maintenace but it appears to be broken for me.

All taxes are assess once per week. At the time votes are counted the taxes are assessed. I think that it uses the tax rate at that time to determine the amount of taxes due for the week.

Did you see the prices on the vendor change when you implemented the taxes? I know income taxes are assessed weekly, and I think property taxes are too. So theoretically what may happen is the taxes are collected as sales are made, but they don't go into the treasury until week's end.

The taxes are, however, instantly reflected in the price of everything on the vendor. There's no notice to the buyer about what the taxes are. They just notice your prices are no longer nice round numbers.

I did notice that when you destroy city hall, the sales taxes don't go away, even on new items added to the vendor (unless they fixed it).

Thanks for the info. I have not seen the prices go up but the vendors are all mine so I might not? I'll have someone else look at the prices and see if they notice a difference.

1) Is the amount of tax collected stored somewhere and then deposited into the treasury on election day or 2) does the city keep track of all sells for the week then tax those sells at your tax rate on election day (if I set tax to 5% right before election will I get 5% for all sells all week?)

Just an update. The items that sold tonight have had the tax added and it has been placed into the treasury. I guess it takes 24hours for a tax to take effect but I have not seen this documented anywhere.
