Thread: Being a Mayor is stressing me out!

One would think that managing 50 individuals, designing the city, arranging the classes and keeping citizens would be the part stressing me out.

Nooo.. thats the easy and FUN part...

What is stressing me out is the fact that dispite my enabling zoning restrictions, random people are STILL placing structures anywhere and everywhere within our city.

I cleared a space last night for our Cantina and this morning, before our Entertainer was even connected, someone dropped a wind gen on the spot. Thankfully he's said he'll move it. Unfortunately, 2 more small houses appeared around it before he was able to move. I still haven't gotten ahold of those people yet.

3 days ago, a large house appeared DIRECTLY in front of our city hall. The area we had zoned for a park. He is refusing to move it. I can't force him to move and the taxes are insignificant. He won't move. Now what?

My frustrations are mounting and I have no idea what to do about it. We have absolutely no room for our civic structures at the moment.. our city is being invaded.

Did you remember to actually enable zoning laws at the city management terminal?

Are these people members of your militia? They can grant zoning rights, you know.

If the guy won't move his house you can ban him from the city and sick the militia on him. That'll get him out of there eventually I suppose.

"Did you remember to actually enable zoning laws at the city management terminal?"

Yup, twice now.

As for the militia, yea we can do that I suppose.

Does banning these people keep them out of the city or simply from using our civic structures. As I understand, it will simply deny service on our structures but they can still place anywhere.

Well, turn on the "zoningRights" and no one can build anything within city limits.

/enablezoningrights was the first thing I did after I placed down the city hall.

After that, if someone wanted to build a structure, I would have them give me the deed and I would personally place it for them in the spot I choose. Works like a charm.

Any militia member can still grant rights, however. Perhaps your problem is more with them than with folks building randomly. Dunno - might be worth a quick check anyway

Also make sure you revoke after they place structures. That was a problem for me. I would log off and someone that was a citizen in my city wouldtry to help out because I forgot to revoke rights and wasnt on when the other person needed to place. I have yet to have anyone refuse to move anything though when asked. All of our citizens want a large, pretty, well running city and are willing to put a little bit of effort into it themselves.

Oh yeah and talk about stress you should try doing it while running a guild with over 100 active members and try to make money with your architecture company and maintain a 2.5gpa and take 18 hours.

Heheh, I think I got you beat there Flint

  • 100+ Guild members - many with multiple houses needs and factories

  • Having to build a city in an area that is littered with houses that people have cancelled their accounts and the CSRs refuse to destroy.

  • Taking 14 units in college ~ 3.1 GPA

  • Working 25 hours/week

  • Creating our city in such a way so that it can be defended against large rebel raids.

  • Convince half my guild to move for a 3rd time so that our layout will benice.( not my fault )

Our strategy for that was make it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out there (8k from nearest city) and put a bunch of turrets around the shuttleport. If you want to raid us we are going to make it waste alot of your time lol.

Similar idea about the shuttle for us Flint, we're about 4.5k away also. Only problem is that my guild is VERY active in PVP and rebels might actually get their act together and attempt something

this could be a reinactment of D-Day without the beach... soldiers getting shot off and waves after waves of rebels trying to attack your main base and citizens...
