Thread: City growth illustration.
I mocked this up to better display how our city will grow based on game design for my PA mates, so that everyone would better understand where they need to build so we can grow to metropolis size in the most minimal amount of time. It came out so well that I decided I needed to share it with community in general. I think this may help many people get a grasp on how a city will progress.
The link below will take you to the news section of my PA's web site where the image is posted. It's a screenshot of our city with the overlay map on, and I then put some graphics and text over that to help give better explanation to the city growth dynamics. Enjoy:

I like that...there is definatley a need to plan for any city, and the radius factor can really mess with things.
For my guild, we were starting in a new location, and I decided to grid it out in an XL sheet...

They are early drafts of how it will look, with emphasis on plugging folks in FAST in order to PL the Mayor...after getting to Level 3, we will begin to clear up the central area around the CH, and dedicate one area for residential, one for 'Entertainment' *Cough* Red Light District *Cough*, and a large one for shops.
FYI...each grid square is 8mx8m...some of the sizes are incorrect, and there was no allowance for the natural space that comes with a house, but cannot be built upon. Black is 'roads' Yellow is Phase 1, Blue is Phase 2, green=parks, Red=primary city structures, peach are shops and large homes (New Hollywood).
Anyone that has suggestions...please PM me, or post here...it's interesting to see what others have in mind![]()
Very nice Dominix.
Check this one out:

This is more simple than yours, but it is a literal contour of the Mesa we have built upon. The Mesa will hold the core city center, with the citythen spreading out on the valley floor. I took waypoints around the contours of the mesa and plotted them in MS Excel. Then I plotted the actual footprint of each building placed so far (NOTE: the green squares are the FOOTPRINT of the building, not the building shape itself. Very handy for planning adjacent structures).
By the way, the big blue dot on the right is a humongous underground cavern... a nice little POI for us. ![]()
