Thread: Don't move houses
I'm a Mayor without a City today.
We needed to arrainge some houses.. and we are an outpost, so every "body" is critical.. however the timers on the City Hall and Houses do not jive with each other. One of our residents moved his house to be more esthetically pleasing - our Hall would only place in the center of town, and some of us were in closer quarters than we wished.. so, I get the "citizen lost!' message in my e-mail.
The person didn't leave.. they just moved the home. Since residency was already declaired, he couldn't re-declare in his new location.. even though he was still in town with only one building (his primary residence). Before the "house" timer was up (he needed another 2 hours) the City Hall claimed we had not met the requirements... and poofed.
We have 6 primary homes. One person didn't show up in time to cross his threshold... and the other committed the sin of itchy feets.
I'm really tired after spending the last 4-5 hours rebuilding a city hall deed from scratch.... and...
of course, someone jumped in line right away.. so the Cap says "You snooze, you lose".
Small cities, be warned. I put in a ticket.. but I doubt I'll get any satisfaction.

That's the risk of running a small town - it may get too small and dry up. The cap has to be set somewhere. Why not find some other town to move into?
We've already had this outpost established. We really haven't lost any "facilities" .. but I'm just annoyed that this "next big thing" was bugged enough to poof so quickly. I put too much time into the planning, making (powercores are a royal pain in the patootie, and 20 walls are no picnic) and stressing over winning a spot in the planetary horse race..
I know, I know.. it's only a game... it's only a game...
It wasn't bugged.. He didn't move his house, that's impossible. He removed it, then placed it somewhere else that happened to be within the city. But there is and always has been a 7 day waiting period on redeclaring residence. Perhaps it could be smarter and allow you to declare residence if your current residence disappears, but as far this goes, itwas working as intended as far as I can tell.
If you wanted to secure your location, I'm sure there were a lot of PAs you could have negotiated with to get a very large city. I know one small city on my server is doing just that, using the small city as a holding pattern for their mayor to train on until they can get their spot.
But it wasn't a 7 day wait. The system was giving him another 2 hours to wait before he could declare residence -- and the house had been moved maybe 3 hours earlier... maybe less.
I agree that the system should be smarter... however that kind of "intention" makes for major losses.. in this case, a ton of PITA resources and a spot in line.
And I'm sorry, but we LIKE being small.. and not living in someone elses' larger shadow, thank you. Small doesn't mean inferior.. it may be harder, but it's definately not a lesser path.
dam, no edit.
Anyway. Small is what we are.. and we *are* a PA -- so there's no "PA" to come under.

I'm still upset. Too much work down the tubes over a case of crossed wires.
You are right, smaller is a harder path. It's easy if you're big to handle a few little problems, but if you're small, every little bit counts, and you've stumbled a little. If you're set on being your own independant little outpost, more power to you, I wish you luck, and I'm sure you'll thrive either when the cap is lifted or now on one of the other planets.
But I still say the system is working as intended.
I'm confused how this happened. We had a player who lived 17 meters outside of the recognized radius. He had had his residency declared there for a good few weeks. He picked up his house and moved it one block down and into the radius, placed it, walked inside, and *poof* he was a citizen. This was on Naboo, Scylla.
For some reason it seems that our town has very few citizenship bugs . . . it actually seems to be allowing us to declare residents almost TOO easily. If there's any way I can be of assistance in tracking these bugs and what works, doesn't, shouldn't, etc, let me know, especially if it will help some of these other small towns stay in business.

(Rowf): There is... there... can't you see it... Our island...just stay with me.. I'll get you there...
Hmm. That sounds right.
When this citizen first moved in (well within the 'you need 5 people to stay alive' timer) I understand he was able to declare immediately, since it was a new installation and I'd presume he didn't have a home somewhere else. However, he did destroy the original structure he'd declared (a small tat house) and replace it, still within city limits, with a medium generic. It apparently gave him something to the tune of 7-8 hours to wait to declare residency.. I got the "Citizen lost!" e-mail.. and less than an hour later (It may have been an hour, but I think less) the City Hall broadcasts "you haven't met your requirements" (even though I'd just checked the terminal and it said we had) and poofs.
I would just like to see the timers in sync for residents. This person was on our CH list by name. If the CH would allow for immediate residency for new placements, this wouldnt' have happened. I'd see a check for "building yes/no - residency yes/no" .. then that would solve a problem.
Too late now. At least if I could get the deed back.. but since I've crafted a new one, at great pain to myself, it's a moot point.
