Thread: Please remove default votes in contested cities
Dear developers, I politely request for an amendment to the SWG constitution![]()
Well, what would you expect from politicians except working the system? There are people actively trying to work around the laws (citizen limits) you have set by offering cross server trades of citizens. They are asking people to make characters on galaxies they don't play and become citizens to get around the 10 char limit or other limits for city growth or to make sure they can never be voted out. Characters are made never to be used again because the current mayot gets their default votes.
What does this do to the game? It forces you to keep city limits at a higher level than necessary. Your database does not care if a house is ever used, its being there alone forces you to keep the limits unnecessarily high. At the same time it makes it more difficult for honest players to get one of the contested city spots without working the system as well.
So I am proposing the following changes:
- A politician may only become candidate for mayor up to three days before an election.
- Iff there is more than one candidate in a city, default votes are cancelled and citizens are reminded by eMail to vote three days before the election.
These changes would at least let the incumbent mayor be voted out of office.
No. Allow some sort of founding charter type deal that allows a city to be founded under certain principals. A free for all, weak and unorganized venitian style city state that so many would be usurpers destroyers favor could be one such option...hey in that style of place this would be a great idea. Some groups would like to use their cities to forward the GSW, develop there members etc. Its become dogma that groups dont have that right...military legions dont have the right to exist. Pants. Some leaders would like to lead their pa's, their cities and alliances, without spending all their time in election mode. Oh no, we cant have that...the Devs said...I pay my monthly fee...Im a 12 year old who dont listen to no one f00l...etc etc.
Once you join a town, you should be subject to the philosophy of said town. Its all about choice...my choice to organize like minded people towards our collective goals...and your choice NOT to move into said orginization...and to found something you believe in. This whole thing is bunk. Imagine a world where nothing can be destroyed...so terrorists, as one example, to defeat the evil empire, need only walk into town and magically construct houses...if they can get 51% any given week they win. There are no borders, groups, nations, and peoples have no right to exist...becasue a magical anarchy fairy said so. Yea! I want to pay to live in that world...not.
So rather then further weaken the whole concept of central orginization, let us rather find ways where everyone can build and live in a nation, guild, city, or uping where they want...not to live how they are forced. Anyone can get up and leave if a place becomes abusive...but when the abusers roll in on a wave of small genarics, l33t speak, and old fashioned onryness, where can the rest of us flee...Right we got to campaighn all the time...we cant fight or flee. No thanks.
I understand your point, but removing default votes would have other consequences as well.
If even a couple of satisfied city members are on vacation at the same time, have ISP issues, or what have you, the approved town mayor could be removed from office. Sure when the citizens return they may be able to get their candidate back in power, but by then the newcomer could have done a lot of damage. And if it looks like the new mayor will lose the next election to the old one, what's to stop them from looting the treasury and destroying the town?
Even for citizens who can play each week, I always saw not voting as a kind of pocket veto. Like a warning to the mayor. The citizens won't oppose the mayor... yet. But they don't like their mayor's actions enough, or feel passionately enough about the town,to want to support the incumbentby giving them xp. Having half a town's citizens refuse to vote one week could be a very effective protest, and it will definately get the mayor's attention!
Ifany citizencan't logon during aweek, they shouldn't lose all say in their city. The vote trades are kind of a shame, but those who want absolute power will probably always find new ways to get it. Removing default votes wouldn't really hurt vote traders, who will just make sure they and the people they're swapping with will log on to their alts each week for a few minutes. It would only wind up hurting cities who are trying to run themselves legitimately but have citizens whose real lives are a priority over their playtime.
