Thread: what would have been a good way to organize a city layout
think sim city.
one person, perhaps a city planner or the mayor or whatever, got a top down view of the entire area of the city's land. they would divide it up into different districts such as residential (houses), industrial (harvestors and factories), and business district (city hall, cantinas, shuttleports, med centers, shops, banks, etc.), and recreational districts (like parks and such).
they would have control over where structures are placed (in aspot aggreeable to both the district guidelines and the owner of the building so as to prevent griefing), and would keep everything in an organized way. and they would have a budget for placing things like road systems and parks and such (if the mayor aggrees with the placing).
i also think that you shouldn't be able to build a city within at least 1.5k of an existing city (the default ones). i mean, i step right out of espa, into another city. what is that?
you see, i bring this up because i think this would have been a better way to implement the construction of cities. i don't mean to put down the owners of current player cities, but from the ones i have seen, i am not impressed at all by the layout or organization. random houses placed everywhere and harvestors blocking the city hall. then again, its their city.
the only one so far that i have seen that i like (for the most part) is Mos Krayton on the tarquinas server. has all right layout, and is a good distance from mos taike. BUT even that one has a flaw since they placed it right next to that tusken/jawa/human constant battle way out in the desert. i can just imagine their city growing up around the burnt out sandcrawler and whenever someone new comes to visit the city people welcome them with the warning "watch out for the tusken/jawa turf war. enjoy your stay!"
I plant the houses.. then transfer the ownership to them.. /transferstructure works great ![]()
Yes, /transferstructure is a god-send!
People are a little hesitant to have someone else place their house, but if you work with them for a few minutes to make sure they are happy with where it is going, they are usually ok with it.
When all is said and done though, everyone in town is quite appreciative of the careful layout because it benefits us all in the long run.

Actually we have lived in this area (well a few screens over) for quite sometime and often hunt the sandcrawler. I see one of two things happening when we envelop it. A) the spawn stops and we have a "point of interest" like the lucky despot or some such and B) we have a section of the city while unuseable for growth it provides citizens and visitors with constant entertainment(like krayts on your backstep isnt entertainment enough) Thank you for your kind words about our planning. We had to adapt at the last minute due to placement problems but we are working around itI hope to see you soon. the new cantina will be up this week, owned by yours truly. Stop in for a drink on me.
I'm 500m from this as well and I object to the krayts on the backstep reference. My krayts show up on the FRONT steps of city hall. I've got screenshots! ![]()
Actually, we're planning on people liking the tuskens as an XP draw.
right now our chief architectect (me) have lots left over to plant anyone's building for them and transfer.. this is WAY better than letting them plant themselves..
The new mayor and I have been coordinating the areas of expansion ![]()
