Thread: Any Politicians out there who don't have a guild backing them?
I amcuriousto hear what your plans are at launch. Especially if you'll be trying to buy your own city hall, find a group of like-minded people, etc.
Seems like the lone-wolf politician is gonna be a tough field to plow...
i dont have a guild, and i started a new city from scratch with 6 people and we already have a town of 16 after 3 days.

My guild is new and we only have about 12 members, but if we get 3 more we will be set for 2 weeks....it's after that I start to worry.
I don't belong to a pa. I help found the town back in mid-July. We had 35 people show up and place houses on "founder's day." We set up our own forums after that and have been holding our elections there (until the patch comes out).
The city has been as large as 110 houses and is at about 90 now.
We actually used the fact we were not part of a PA to attract people. Not that we have anything against PAs -- we actually hostfour in town. Two were created by residents once they moved there. But I think by not being a "PA" town, people felt like they weren't committing to too much by moving in -- and were more inclined to give the town a try.
We started as a PA so we woulod have something unifying to work with as we formed the basis for the town, but now that PA is breaking off into several smaller ones who will live in the town . . . we're still not sure what will become of the original PA.
It may retain the name and such but it won't be what it originally was, and I'll be stepping down as leader as soon as I can find someone to take the building over.

I have no PA backing either. I have been able to raise plenty of money and support though. Like the above poster mentioned, I am using my non-PA status as a selling point too. How many individuals want to move into a PA controled city with a private agenda andthey are the outsider? I know I sure wouldn't want to.
My prediction: In the long run, Non-PA cities will end up being the most successful ones out there.
I am all set to start a city with no backing but the people I meet and make friends with. Some are in guilds, most are not. The unguilded ones are enthused to hear plans for a non-PA city. I am sure it will be possible to start as an unaffiliated politician and to gain momentum on the basis of your character, honor, humor etc.
I have enough money saved up that I am also offering to move the first batch of settlers out for free. My main question now is where to build, I have been considering many options and still have no definite plans.
If any of you on Naritus are interested, just drop me an e-mail and I will give you more details.

Therefore, I will probably be on my own in the first month or so of my career as a politician.
My plan is to pretty much start travelling to all the new cities and begin to make a name for myself. Shake a few hands, hug a few people, kiss a few cu-pa babies. Basicly a grass roots attempt of trying to sway votes in my favor.
Votes get you xp, xp gets you skill boxes and better skill boxes will eventually campaign for you
However, I see this profession becoming the MOST competative one of all. Remember, xp doesn't come as easily and isn't as available as other professions. There may be unlimted mobs to kill, but there's only so many votes to be won.

I think you're right, Sheuset. I fully expect all 10 cities on allthe major planets to begobbled up instantaneouslyby PAs, meaning that most would-be Politicians will be totally out of luck until the caps are lifted (unless they're willing to relocate to one of the minor planets).
Of course, as slugeater (in his own inimitable fashion) pointed out, the lone wolf Politician never had much of a future, anyway. I'm a fan of SWG, but evenI must admit thatits designhews slavishly to the conventional wisdom of "it's a MMOG -- if you want solo play, go play a standalone game like Jedi Knight." The new Politician profession fits perfectly into that mindset.
If I'd been the designer, I'd have tossed in a city council option to give more people the opportunity to activelyparticipate in politics, or at the very leastoffered one discipline for the "power behind the throne" folks (imagine a SWG version of Karl Rove or Lanny Davis). That would have allowed both the gregarious People Persons and the backroom Dealmakers (think Palpatine and Dooku)to enjoy political activity in SWG.
Oh, well. Maybe in SWG2. ![]()
