Thread: So it's all suburbs then, eh? When do I get my surrendered skills and XP back?

/agree 100%. This really screws a lot of people and their plans. Of course this means that it's going to be ALL suburbs . No one who has anything planned more than 500 meters from a static city will have a chance in hell of getting their hall down in time. And there's no way anyone using a single architect/politician will make it, because those who have a seperate architect to make the deed and have it waiting at the exact spot while the mayor gets trainin are the ones who'll get a city.

This means my PA has spent the last two months living out in the middle of nowhere, dealing with a PA hall that's 3k from the nearest city (quite a run) FOR NOTHING. If I am not able to get my hall up in time because I'm so far out (it is seriously an awesome location btw) then this is likely to be the straw that broke the camels back for my whole PA.

We've been waiting for cities to breath a little new life into this game, and if we can't have one, we're taking our ball and going home. Way to drive the customers away. Oh wait, I know. They wanted to make sure and not mention this until after the billing cycle kicked in! Great, you’ve got another 3 months of my money now (non-refundable of course).

And they say they'll increase the caps in the next patch? What fever dream makes them think they'll be able to improve the database for this? 3 months after release we've still got tiny house content limits in place. If they don't have the problems of cities taking too much data solved by now, they never will. Oh! Maybe for the space expansion. That's when they tell us only Jedi can pilot starships.

So I'll ask as others have, will I get my 500 apprentice points back when I find out I just wasted them? What about the 5 skill boxes I gave up since I was maxed out? I really could use those other skills, but I was willing to give them up for the dream of our PA. Not to mention the 20 walls I've got earmarked. If I built a city hall and can't place it, who am I going to sell it to? But now only the Uber PAs who want to live right on the outskirts of town are going to benefit from the cities part of the patch and the rest of us be damned. Oooh, if only I'd waited until today to surrender all those skills and lose that XP.

So what does this all mean? It means my whole PA has WASTED countless hours, resources, and effort preparing for something we can’t have for yet another month. Too late . You thought people were quitting out of frustration now? Just wait until you tell them to wait another month to get a city because they weren’t close enough to town (we used to worry we were too close!).

I hope Dragon Empires learns from this and does cities right, because they’ll likely be the next ones getting my money. Until then, I guess I'll have to build another module in Neverwinter Nights. At least there I can build any kind of city I want. I can even program all the citizens to do exactly what I like

So your only giving up enough skill points to get novice politician? man your going to be the worst mayor ever...no bank, no specials...let me know so I can avoid this city. Your PAs "dream" will be able to be realized, when you realize the fact that cities are not a PA perk and that they are suppose to draw DOZENS of people together of multiple PAs, and Not of PAs, your elitist attitude about "your" dream city probably means you would BAN every person who wanted to settle down because they arent part of your "clique"

This is not what cities are about and if you want your 500 xp back how about just not spending it in the first place and take your City Hall (or to you glorified PA Hall) and sell it to a bunch of people who want to start a REAL open community and not a closed whining society.

You're jumping to a lot of conclusions. I've only given up enough for novice right now since thath's all I had to. The rest of scout and medic were going to go to get master politician. But if we're not going to be able to have the city we've been planning since beta, there's no point. I'm glad I didn't completely give them up already.

I agree. I think that only allowing 10 cities to form, without any prior notice was cruel. My PA was also looking forward to this day. But Maxx I think you were a little harsh on Phil, just becuase he has a PA doesn't mean he doesn't want new people to join the city. I'm sure he has worked very hard to keep his guild thriving.

My guild is very excited about the cities, and hopefully (crosses her fingers) we will get to be 1 of the 10 on our planet. I think they should have selected the 10 cities based on current progress, my city is ready to be rank 5 now, as others who have worked extemely hard to get these cities. I would hate to see people in my situation not get their city beacuse 5 people placed houses together and want to call it a city. It's like those little poduk towns on the highways you go through and have to slow down to 35mph for 10seconds while you pass it.

As for him being a shotty mayor, I think anyone who can run a guild and a city deserves major props. The people who want to start a city and who do not run or belong to a guild are in for a rude awakening when they become mayor. It's not easy to appease a large number of people. You need others to help you along the way, to back you when you need it and to smack you when you need it. I work very hard for my guild, they are my family. And luckily I do not have to carry the burden of our PA alone, I have several good people to help run it. And Phil you membership number is about the same as mine, and I know it's hard to manage that many people and I think both of us will do well as mayor.

Thanks for the props Athena. Although I'm sort of glad you're not on Gorath, because I'd hate for you to feel slighted if I got my little outpost up before you did and bumped you out of the first ten. You see,our "town" currently only has 7 citizens. Unfortunately a number of people have left the game since things long promised and desired have taken so long to go live.

However, we have what I consider one of the best spots for a city on Naboo.A cliff overlooking the ocean with plenty of growing room and almost 3k from the nearest static city, but still conveniently located between two of them...

Anyway, part of the dream of cities is having a thriving metropolis, and I appluad all the large groups who have gotten together and planned things out so well and in advance.

But I also feel there should be room for the small "podunk" town in this game. I never planned our place to grow beyond 50 people, and expect something more like 30 to be honest. As a merchant town and tax haven the draw is there, and the location is just great. This town has been a dream of mine and my small PA since beta. Members have fallen by the wayside, and the unusual lack of a "need" to be in a PA (opposed to EQ or DAoC) have kept our group from growing huge. But there's nothing wrong with that.

To be honest I think the distance will be the killer, as after training in politics, I'll have to catch a shuttle, then run almost 3k, build a hall, and place it. We'll see... My only possible advantage is that Gorath has a lot of Europeans on, and maybe the timing will favor me. But I'm not counting on it. And to be honest, if we can't have our little town we've been waiting for, we'll probably all quit. I guess we'll see how it goes in the coming weeks.

I feel your pain... times 50.

I am recently elected, yes.. elected, magnate of Vagabond's Rest on Starsider(naboo). We have a FULL government. Magnate, Judges, Ministers, Law Council, Police force. We have elections, zones, streets, and many guilds. We have Imperials, Rebels, crime, pirates, entertainment, businesses, homes, bars, and everything else you could think of. We have a website with 400+ registered people. (www.vagabondsrest.com)

The town itself is 150+ buildings, and plan to increase to 200+ soon. We have about 100 citizens living there and have been looking forward to this for a long time. My reason for all my RP, gameplay... everything has cycled around this city. We have been mentioned by the developers, visited by them, and been proclaimed the RP center for Starsider by others.

You have been planning for two months? VR has been in planning for 2 YEARS. Long ago the Founders of VR put together the plan for our city, and its becoming a reality. We have been looking forward to this patch for years.

Now, this latest info about the limit is a real kick in the balls. VR is 2800m from Theed, and I honestly dont know if we will make it. If we dont... I really have no idea what we will do. This entire game has been about the community and the city for me. I dont think we will leave... yet. We will be very very angry.

I have always had faith in the developers.. but this... this HORRIBLE decision might ruin years of planning.

Thank you devs. Two years of planning has now been reduced to an hour long race for those 10 spots.

Horrible...

I'm not trying to be mean, but you really shouldn't give up skill boxes until you're right about to train. That way you don't loose you're hard work right away

Yeah, lesson learned. Ahh well. Luckily I capped in a few of them, so I could get the boxes back again. But I gave up probably about 160k XP so far... Not quickly regained.
