Thread: Next problem: capped city growth. People are going to get screwed AGAIN.

So, I did miss the Land Rush and I'm waiting for raising of the caps to place my city hall. I have 80ish people eager to live in the city I'll found. I suppose when time to grow comes, since we'll be 3 or 4 weeks late anyway, I'm going to be the Mayor of an 80 people outpost that can't grow?

We were screwed by the system once, I'm pretty sure we'll get screwed twice with this system...As I said someplace else, the caps will have long term effects the Devs didn't even think of. (Tempted to troll on this one...)

Best way to deal with the tall guys is to give them incentives to lick the ground. And dont look down on me that way youre not THAT taller.

They are going to up the caps with the next publish. It sucks that you cannot grow to a rank 2 when we FINALLY get to place our halls especially if you're like me and have a beautiful serene setting with no buildable land in the first ring. We can't develop since well 1 we aren't sure where exactly the border is and B we are gonna do a superbowl shuffle every week with expanding radius. I just dont see why the caps are so low. Ok you want to limit stress and strain...so make it 20 per civilized. I would have made it then most likely (**edit** college, good education my ass) but no we have to limit it a rediculous amount, then slap people in the facewho are prepared to have a go by saying noone is prepared. We may not have our homes dropped but we are prepared, there are cities that sprawl for hundreds of homes on my server (and they are horribly symmetric) to say nobody has anything just shows how little knowledge that some people have about their own creation. I just pray that they up the caps by 10 or so when they let us drop our new city halls soon.

Well, it all has to do with the initial caps. Cities placed on the 13th will be allowed to grow, while newer ones will be stuck to outpost status.

An obvious solution would be to allow the cities with the most potential to grow. (ie, the more people in the next range).

Look at it this way-

Guys, so instead of growing next week, your gonna have to wait an extra week or two, it's not that big of a deal, at least we can HAVE cities now.

Actually my understanding of the changes were that new ones could grow, but the max over outpost was capped (so if one of the earliers ones drops too low you can take its place and then it is stuck at outpost)

The 10 Villages (Rank 2s) on the central planets will be the only ones to grow. When the caps are lifted, they will only apply to Outposts (Rank 1s). What can you do with an Outpost? Practically nothing. With the right Politician in office, you can place mission terminals, small gardens, trainers... that is about it. In order to get things like banks, cantinas, and shuttleports, your city must grow. However, even when this initial cap lifting goes into effect, there will still be only 10 Player Cities above the rank of Outpost. The only way for the other ones to grow is for one of the intial 10 to fail.

However, down the road, the Devs are going to increase the cap for the Player Cities above Rank 1 at some time. I forget where I read that, but it was on the boards somewhere. That might take a long time, or many never happen.

If you have more than 10 people willing to go into a Player City together, might I suggest going to one of the smaller planets? I realize that isn't what you want, but if you have a ton of people, your growth will be unmetered on a sister planet. That is, if the cap has not been met there too!

the newer cities CAN grow.. only when the initial 10 cities (naboo example) one of them fall..

due to hostile take over.... or.. hostile take over (as in take over and destroy the hall)

at that point.. the next update.. who was next to place a hall and have over 20 citizen will grow to rank 2... (that mean the 11th city placed)

Right, an Outpost can grow at that point. However,if the Player Cities on Naboo in the Naritus galaxy are any indication of what all other Player Cities are like, then there is very little, if any chance, of the new Outposts growing. That is why I suggested a sister planet. Those planets are begging to be settled. There is almost no reason to go to Talus or Rori or Dantooine, but maybe your city can be the one that gives players a reason to go there.

You could also save yourself the aggravation of waiting for the cap to be lifted. If you have a good number of people, you could join up with an existing Player City. I am sure there are PCs out there that need a boost in citizenship to grow to the next rank. As long as you are willing (as a Politician) to not gain some xp for a little while, since most mayors won't allow competition at the beginning, then you can certainly get into a PC.

yup.. our city on datoonine, lowca need good citizens

I personally lay down every single brick on Spired Rock (being the only architect) and lay them out properly.. (I let other lay out earlier... I shouldn't have done that)

so couple of building are "messup" per se...

I hope and wish the city will grow and prosper (right now only 23 people) but at least we are rank 2... so we can grow...

it is 3k away from NPC city.. so it is not too bad.
