Thread: House Positioning
One problem that the mayor in my city is having is placement of houses in the city. The problem is someone doesn't always place their house where the mayor wanted it. A city would look much better if they could be designed. Now, once a player places a house and loads his stuff up, it is hard to convince that person to take down the house and move it. Also, the player would have to redeclare their residence which can take 24 hours to do.
So, this is what I propose. The mayor of a city can move houses just like a house admin can move furniture. He cannot move the house outside of the town, and he shouldn't be able to move the house such that it cannot be entered. This would allow the mayor to move the houses with everything inside without having pester the home owner.
If people believe this would be to much of a greifing tool, the owner of the house can just give temporary permission to the mayor to move the house for 24 hours. That way, once it is moved to a place that is agreed, the mayor loses the ability to move it again.
That would probably be the quickest way to do it. Though, knowing SOE's database issues, I'm wondering how they'd manage to flag all those items that are 'in transit', and actually make sure that things pop back up where they're supposed to. We have things disappearing now with static houses, I'm almost afraid to think what wil happen with moving houses ![]()
Anyways, I think it would be nice if we could 'pre-zone' a city area, so that only certain areas are placeable. For example, a zoned lot for a house, or factory, or civic structure, etc. That way, you don't have to worry about the layout as it's already pre-determined.
The obvious workaround is placing the deed yourself and then using /transferstructure to give the ownership back to the rightful owner.
Problem: you can't do that if you don't have the free lots. Meaning, 6 free lots if your citizen is placing a large house.
I agree a tool allowing us to move houses would be nice. Especially when merchants are relucant to move their big houses with hundreds of items and their fully loaded vendors. Which I understand very well.
Heck, I think that if the individual could do this, most people would not have a problem with moving. No reason to make the Mayor do it.

They'll never give it to someone else because of the griefing possibilities. But I do think you should be able to move your house without packing it up on your own. I also understand how this really isn't very feasable from a coding point of view though.
