Thread: 500 apprentice xp for Novice Politician? Perhaps a better way...
To me this makes no sense. Then again I may be missing something here.My reasoning? First off, 500 apprentice xp is quite a bit. It can be easy or difficult depending who's there. This is not xp you can get on your own (which would probably be one of thepurposes behind thesdevs reasoning = the friendly and helpful politician who serves the citizens through assitance, though reality wise.. yeah right). My second reason would be is, this is a starting profession, or at least from my visit to the TC, Ive seen it in that slot. This does not need to be in the same effect as a elite profession (gaining app xp to move up). If this was an elite profession, then I could see the cause behind having 500 app xp for such a profession, but its not. Lastly, and of the least importance, some of us want to start new characters as politicians instead of having to drop skills with our current characters in order to pick up this profession. Im not asking for it to be of the 6 professions that you can have a character creation, but it have at least a little more accesible withthe right conditions.
Here is what I propose. This profession, and thus the politics of this game will of course be loosely based upon Roman politics, i.e. popularity rather than the issues you stand on. Every politician needs a campaign and the finances to start one. Its a simple case of solution and roleplaying.Instead of the 500 app xp requirements, why not just increase the cost of which the profession costs to learn? This could easily be a way for supporting members and friends to loan you the money to make you their politician. Make this profession what it is really about: power, friends, and money. Give it that galactic political feel where money and power is but a thin line. This profession doesnt have to be only 100 credits like the rest of the starting professions. It can be5,000 or even 10,000 credits, not 500 app xp. Instead of going around asking people if they need to be trained, you can ask the people in your soon to be city to fund you city campaign. It makes sense.
Plinka, please bring this to the attention of the devs. Im sure this system could be implemented before the profession goes live, as Im sure its not hard to implent.
And I think it's pretty brash of you to just expect Plinka to tell the devs to change the system based upon only your own opinion without even asking what the hundreds and thousands of other politicians-to-be think of it.
Brash? Not really. I did say it was a proposal, meaning only a suggestion. And I am asking for the opinions of the other politicians-to-be by bringing it here to this forum. Right?
Make it available to anyone with the credits?
As it stands so are the other starting professions.Matter of fact, the way politician works right nowyou only need 150 credits and the required app xp, unless Im mistaken. Like I stated before, if this is an elite profession, then Im sorry for the incorrection. I just want to see a better way if it can happen.
Im not here trying to argue here. I just want to see something that could be better in my opinion.
It isn't a starting profession. Here is what you'll find of a starting profession:
- Has no other profession as a prerequisite.
- Can be selected from the character select.
- Can be trained in any NPC city.
- Is a prerequisite for other professions.
- Anybody can take it at any time (Skill points willing) and advance in it - no xp requirements.
- Skill point usage starts at15 for novice, then 2 for the first row of boxes, going up to 5 for the 4th row of boxes then 6 for master.
As you can see, Politician only hastwo of those in common with starting professions - the first and last. Okay, not a starting profession, so is it an elite profession?
- Has other professions as a prerequisite
- Can only be trained once in game
- Is only trainable in a few select cities
- Is not a prerequisite for other professions. (At least not until we see elite-elite professions)
- Some requirements must be filled before it can be trained.
- Skill point usage starts at 6 for novice, then 5 for the first row of boxes, going down to 2 for the last row of boxes, then 1 for master.
Well it's a slightly better fit.. 3 out of 6 can describe politician. But 50% is still a failing grade. So we can conclude it's not an elite profession either.
What is it then? It is it's own profession. It is unique. Therefore, you can't really compare it to a starting profession, or to an elite profession.
And really, the requirement isn't that steep. If you want a mule to hold the city, then better get started now. Create a medic or entertainer and play for a few days AT THE KEYBOARD. You'll quickly get the apprentice xp you need. Though... If I lived in your city, I'd likely vote for the first politician to step up to run against you that promised to be more actively played.
500 apprentice xp is too much
How? You can get that in one day if you pick up scout and go to dathomir with a friend. You get up to master in an hour and he dropsa few of his skills in scout for you to reteach him. There problem solved. I have 1240 app xp and I'm sure that if that wasnt the cap I would at least have doubled that. It isn't a difficult thing to get and if anything its too easy.
Credits as a different option? How hard is it to get that much money? If it was 1 million credits then it would be limiting (a bit too limiting) but 10k...I waste that much from flights and tips. The way the system is setup now is pretty good, the prereqs are a bit confusing but not difficult to attain. Heh I plan on reaching max in app xp after I hit politician that week maybe a bit later. Everyone needs skills taught to them if you know where to stand *cough* cantina *cough*.
Eww! Make it available to anyone with the credits?
500 App XP is so little anyhow. Personally it might make more sense to raise that. Too bad 1240 is as high as it can go.
Well, I like the 500 App XP requirment much better thant the money one ...
And I think it's pretty brash of you to just expect Plinka to tell the devs to change the system based upon only your own opinion without even asking what the hundreds and thousands of other politicians-to-be think of it.
