Thread: Recapping Caps

I wanted to take a moment to recap what we know about player city caps.

1. They are going live with player cities. This cannot be helped or changed.

2. Those caps will be raised. I have been assured that those caps are temporary, that they will be raised and that the worlds can support more than 130 player cities.

3. They should have told us sooner. I'm sure we're all in agreement here. The instant I found out, I asked for permission to post about it. A couple of hours later, I had that permission and I posted it. I let you know as soon as I could because I thought it was that important.

I'm sorry I didn't get you the information sooner, but I dind't know sooner. I'm not sure the devs knew that much sooner either. Programming something as complex as an MMOG with so many different interactions, it's not always easy to accurately predict the outcome without testing. That's why things have to get tested and why, due to testing, some things change in the course of development.

4. Because those caps will be raised, EVERONE, will have the opportunity to take part in a player city. It just might not happen as soon as you had planned.

Some of you have called into question my actions as a correspondent. I'm sorry you feel I've not been doing the job you think I should. My job is to be a conduit of information in both directions. I bring you information from the devs, and I bring devs information from you.

Today I made sure that Thunderheart knew that this cap was our number one issue. I put the number one in front of it to be certain. I asked him to come read the thread that was reflecting this. He did, he knows.

However, in any complex system changes that may seem simple from the outside are not so simple from the inside.

And so we have the caps, that will be raised.

You've done great so far, Plinka. No reason to think you won't continue to do a great job, regardless of what transpired today. You posted the information for us as soon as you possibly could, there's nothing more to say on the subject

Just keep up the great work

Plinka don't let the NEWBIEs to the Politician forum get you down.. You are doing a fantastic job, and would like to get you in a couple different jobs for my other professions.. I would hope they raise this cap even for the initial release, even if its 5-10 more per starting planet.. #11 cities will be throwing fits!

PLinka you've been awesome! This is entirely on the devs.

The problem with the caps being raised later is that it will be too late. With the slow growth rate of the cities and the limits on distance, I seriously think (as most do) that whoever gets a head start will take the whole cake. The sparse population of the planets can only support so many merchants and cities. The extreme costs of running a city will NEVER be made up for strictly on sales taxes and "citizen" taxes unless every citizen runs a lot of missions just for that prupose. So only the ones who can get the initial piece of the pie and become established will make it.

That's how it would be anyway, but this cap just adds extra disadvantages to anyone not able to start out on patch morning.

Thank you for forwarding and vocalizing our concerns to TH and the Dev team. Let's be sure that what we are doing makes sense, not from the "I need cities now" perspective but from the "What will it look like in 90 days" perspective.

Thanks again Plinka.

Plinka I have to same I am extremely luck as I have been graced with the two best correspondants.. you and Marqie over on the Merchant Board. Ignore, if you can, those who would speak otherwise. You are not just a correspondant but a true advocate for our iterests!

From seeing your work on TC I also think you're doing a good job, don't let a few bring you down.

What I want to know is WHY there is a special artificial limit on player cities? They will RUIN the plans of alot of people / organizations, and they will become frustrated, angry to the point of leaving or beyond. I myself was looking to player cities to be the saviour of swg, but not anymore. I do not want to fight over the right to control a city, my 100+ strong PA simply wanted one of our own. Is that so wrong? That's how we wanted to play the game and I think many more are like us. Real life politics do not interest me, nor will any ingame system trying to replicate the bickering and fighting over votes. We just wanted to make our own "cool little city".
