A group of us found a location ... slapped down a few houses - and are thinking of slapping down a city hall...

But the question arose .. What REALLY is the role of a mayor? I mean .. other than being able to place civic buildings ... what makes one mayor better than the other... ?

The same thing that makes JFK better then Stalin. The role of the mayor is to keep a city alive, and make things interesting. After getting shuttleport skill and have a militia I'm going straight urban planning so I can make my town as nice as things can fit to be. Thanks to the landscape that will mean more sculptures and fountains then parks but so be it.

1) So if you got 3 politicians, all running for mayor... all at novice politician.... what makes one mayor any better of a choice than another?

2) Once you ARE mayor .. all you are is a caretaker .. that's it. Am I wrong?

Oh come on, Uncle Joe wasn't that bad (But JFK wasn't that great either IMO and I'm Roman Catholic.) Mayors are really there to represent a way of thought, as Politicians are in real life. Some people want prettier cities, some people want low taxes, and some people want a stronger sense of security. It's up to the mayor to decide his policies and let the people decide from there. Right now it is very skewed towards friends only voting for friends, but that's because the cities are very small. Given time, there may be some interesting debates that could affect the entire Galaxy...

That makes sense ... you get 100 different residents in a city, that's been live for 6 months - there will probably be so many city structures that the maintenance is more than any one person can pay doing missions ... and the only REAL way to pay it is to introduce taxes... small tax on 100 people can pay maintenance fees pretty easily...

So a mayor is basically that person that juggles attractions vs taxes.. people want 2 starports on either end of the city .... plus parks on every corner .. each one of those has maintenance right...

I think yer right - right now its a 'friend vs friend' competition - later on it will be better...

Ok fine then Hirohito vs Hitler. Happy? I should have chosen FDR now there was a man with an approval rating.

And as I said what makes one politician better then another...well gee since it is an actual person lets think about this. Person A helps the homeless, and shelters stray kittens in her spare time when not in game, Person B is a star wars fanboy to a fault and a poly-sci major, Person C is the antichrist in his spare time he does the voice for Stewie on Family Guy. Which novice politician is better?

And since when does Urban Planning mean caretaking? As an architect major I take offense to that . Aaaah you're all right.
