Thread: Who's the Griefier, The grief or the grief who griefs him?

I'm sorry but this whole Player Cities thing has just turned into one big griefing tool. Before it's deployment I was appathetic to happy that it was going in. So, that means I didn't follow it that much but it sounded like a good way to make the game better.

After last weekend though and the experiences I ran into I hate it the way it is currently implemented.

You have two sides:

1) The builders.

These are the guys that are usually part of a big group. They honestly want to setup a legitimate city with their (mostly) PA friends. They have a large group of people who work together try to find a large un-inhabited location to build their city and are generally good. I can relate to these people because I used to be in a large PA and we had to find a location for our informal city (before PCs were put in) and had the proper builders attitude.

These legit builders can be griefed by those wanting to spoil their fun by building crap in their city that get's in the way. They also build just outside the limits of the city to mess them up.

2) The hermits

These are guys that play alone or in a very small (2 or 3) group that mostly keep to themselves as far as their house is concerned (they may group to combat or sell). Usually they are some form of crafter that has their house, factories and other structures they need to build. They try to stay out of the way of others and look for a location well out of the way of others to build their house because they don't want to bother and don't want to be bothered. I can relate to these people because this is my current status as I try to get back on my feet (crafting wise) from not playing for about a month.

These legit hermits can be griefed by those grief builders (not the ones mentioned above) who build near their house and "annex" them demanding taxes or worse simply wanting to force them to go away.

My griefing

I had this experience last weekend. About a month ago after I started playing again I build a house out in in Tattoine toward Wayfair. When I built it there wasn't another house in site. The only other structure in site was someones chem factory and a windmill. I build plenty away from it as to not bother them. I setup my structure and equipment factory and went back to work.

Last weekend after the patch went in I noticed some houses built nearby. I had a couple of visitors from a well known guild on the server flag me down as I was walking to my house. They told me that I had to move my house because it was in their city. I told them that I would pay their taxes and they would get their money from me. Their reply was that they didn't want my taxes that they wanted me to leave. I said I was there first and that I didn't want to leave. They said they would kill me whenever I came to my house. I sense they were mostly trying to bluff me so I said, fine.....kill me every time. They then said they would levy a 100% tax on my house. I asked them if they could do that on JUST my house. It took a couple of times of me asking before they finally said, "Yes, we can do that". Now, like I said, I haven't followed Player Cities much but I was pretty sure that wasn't possible. So, I said, fine....tax me and walked away. They said "Your a $##$" (my filters are on, hehe). I said, "So are you".

It funny. Because, I came here and see all these complaints about people griefing towns by building nearby. But you shouldn't be so naive to think that peopel can't use the cities to grief others. It's not fair to me to have to pay to re-deed all my stuff and move.

Possible solutions I have seen is "post their info on your server board". I would be interested in the results of doing this. I suspect it won't work because me being a single person would proceed to get slandered terribly by all the people in the "griefing" PA (by them say "that's not how it happened", etc).

Another solution I have seen is for the City to "buy out" the player. I would be interested in hearing the results of these attempts also. If the player is truely trying to grief then they wouldn't accept a buyout.

I would prefer some sort of mechanics in place to prevent both these forms of griefing but fear that it won't happen because it's not feasible.

Player cities were never meant to be private guild enclaves. Many PA's (including us) want them as such, but it must be understood that they were not intended to function in this manner.

That being said, what that PA did to you is certainly not right. I suggest that you tell them you will move for a large amount of credits, and then move just outdie their city. That shouldn't inconvenience you too much and you might make a profit out of it.

I concur... that is ridiculous... i'd move as well not for the credits just to get away from such a large bunch of morons... take their money though... you can spend their dirty money on spice and women in the cantina...
