Thread: Solution to 'Ghost' Residents : Miss 4 Elections and loose resident status
A solution to the problem of ghost citizens would be :
1. Remove default voting. If people aren't willing to take the time to vote for you then you’re not doing a good enough job as a politician to deserve their vote. The potential abuses of the default voting system far out weight any possible problem with the loss of a couple of votes because people are away on vacation/sick etc
2. If a ‘residing’ resident misses four consecutive electoral votes, have them become 'visiting’ residents. A ‘visiting’ resident still pays taxes but is no longer considered toward the population level of a city. If a ‘visiting’ resident casts a vote at any time they automatically become a ‘residing’ resident and will be counted towards the population at the next survey
I think the problem is more immediate... If you can get 20-30 normal citizens, and another 20-30 swappers, really you are most likely gonna master politician before you lose too many of theose swappers.
True Shakers, though the problem is, the solution has to be within SOE's ability to code a quick fix. I haven't worked out a way of doing that other than to enact immediatly for no default voting.
The city size issue and citzenry would probably take another 2 weeks of coding.
how is ghost citizens a problem ? i might want to house with the community i love in tatooine, but i might be wandering around the dantooine in chase of being a jedi.
and what is missing an election ? all votes already go to the incumbent mayor, and im happy with it that i dont want to mark my calendar for remembering to vote on a particular day in the game amidst of all my real life daily worries.
if someone says autovoting is a problem, it isnt. it is illogical to enburden whole swg players with the neccessity of remembering and shuttling to vote every week just because competing politicians dont want autovotes to go to incumbent mayor.
i dont want no solution to ghost citizen problem, neither do i want to be enburdened with the neccessity of voting EACH WEEK by hand.

That's a good solution, but may require too much programming by SOE to make it viable!
IMHO, a simple solution could be to allow people to only have one DECLARED RESIDENCE per account - you can have as many characters and houses as you want, but only your main character can declare residence.
That will screw mayors who have set-up ghost citizen arrangements, and it will not deny peoplewho have multiple characters to explore different aspects of the game from doing so.
There will be many legitimate citizens whodo not get a chance to vote regularly - we shouldn't punish them - or their mayors!
Yours,
There is already a way for challenging politicians to remove all the auto votes from the incumbent before an election.
The two solutions that I think work are:
1 declared resident per account
or
1 tier-4 skill to vote
The later makes people who actually play multiple servers happy at the cost of upsetting those who have not really played their character long, have been given a house by a friend, and expect equal representation in a game universe where an Evil Emperor is being overthrown because he exhorts too much control.
People are blaming the players for making this a problem. It's not the players fault. Everyone pays to play and should be able to do whatever the hell they want. The problem is SOE not preparing their hardware to handle a feature they give us. If I want to play on 8 servers..fine. If you want to just RP on one server fine. If I want to have ghosts all over the place ..fine. If you want to Troll on the boards ...fine. Enough of this " He did that and I don't get to do this crap and he should be nerfed because of this...." No, as paying customers we demand Sony get the equipment they need to handle what services they offer the customers. This is a game. Play it how you want and toss the bitching in the right direction please.

you can only declare your residency at 1 place so thats not the problem. The problem is people putting up hoses, declaring residentcy, then tearing them down and their residency will still stay at that place the house was at. That is the problem. They need to make it so that when the house comes down, so does residentcy and dont tell me it does cause i know for a FACT that it doesn't. I have no problem with people not voting i think that is the way to do it. I come to my city at least once a day and do you think i happen to remember oh have to vote. No, if they want to make it that everyone has to vote then the mayors will have to work harder to make sure people do by sending emails no real problem. I say leave it in, if you vote mayor gets 100xp if you dont 50xp.
Hmm, we had two people that needed to move their house and soon as they destroyed the structure they were removed as a citizen. They had to wait 24 hours after they placed the new house to redeclare.
