This may be a compelte and total newbie question, but hey I'm a complete and total newbie when it comes to politician! 
How do you gain Politician exp once you actually become a novice?

But, to save you time...
Each week every citizen is allowed to vote for who they wish to be mayor of their city. If you are running for mayor and receive any votes whatsoever you gain 100xp per vote. You do not have to win to get the experience.
