Militia are just that, militia. Please take this command away from the militia and either

A) Make mayors grant rights manually

B) Add the council/zoning commissioner thing discussed here before

Last plea that just makes sense for us to build things that will be a help to the game instead of unsightly sprawl and griefing.

Lastly a militia is a military body, it has nothing to do with city planning, layout, contstruction etc. Please let us have the tools to defend our towns and MANAGE their construction.

This is for the good of the game, the GCW and SWG in general. You have to see the sense in this.

JUST MAKE US GRANT MANUALLY if you don't want to do the coding right now. I'm sure that many, if not all, in this forum would agree with me.

Here's another idea: Only make people you trust, militia. It's a pretty simple concept.

If you don't have faith in your people, how can you expect them to have faith in you?

I gotta agree with Plink on this one. Just make it very clear to people that may not think it through when giving out zoning rights that they in fact CANNOT give out zoning rights. The penalty being removal of their militia status or even possible death from other militia

I have to say that I respect Plinka's opinions a lot, and I do agree, you need to trust the people you give power to. My thing with the militia and zoning rights is not about trust though, I do trust those people I want to make Militia. However, there is still the problem of the /grantzoningrights skill itself.

The politician class is given a skill (grantzoningrights) and in no other place on this game do you see someone's skill that they earned with skill points and XP, being given to another class. Yet this is what happens when you empower non-politician militia. Which is what you have to do if you want effective combat militia (they have to be bounty hunters or pistoleers etc).

Ok, that might sound like a cool new feature of the politician class, breaking the boundaries and all that. Personally though, there are a lot of people out there that also want to be politicians but can't because they didn't get a city hall down, or want to be a politician inside another city, yet know its pointless because everyone is voting for the encumbant. (I have 5 people in my city that want to do politician but don't want to run against me, so they aren't taking the class). This is highly unfair to those people.

The better solution IMO is to take something that needs to be done (delegation of power, so we're not all dependent on the mayor), and givepartial power to other POLITICIANS, not this general militia group that are a hodge podge of all other classes.

If there was a city council all made up of politicians, my friends in the city would all be able to play the class they want (politician), get XP, feel a part of the city building/management process, and they would use their own skills that they earned, not granted skills that someone gave them.

IMO these 'council' politicians would not get 'granted' any skills, they would have to earn those skills. If they want to be the 'captain of the watch' and control the Militia then they would need the Militia skill box to do it. They earn something, they achieve something, they can be a part of something.

You could have a Treasurer (or Deputy Mayor), the Captain of the Watch (Military Rep), the Urban Planner (Architect/Decorator Rep), a Crafter Representative and a Healer Representative on the council.

Does that not sound reasonable?

Actually I'm very glad that the militia can grant zoning rights. It allows the city to grow when the mayor can't be online 24/7. Most of our citizens are established players who can't afford to give up 15 skillpoints to take novice politician themselves. If you can't trust your militia to use zoning powers how can you trust them with banning or warning other players? Any of these powers, if abused, can reflect badly on the mayor and the town. Don't think of it in terms of professional priviledge, think of it in terms of adding people to the admin list of a guild.
