The devs just said cities were restricted to people and PA able to log right after the patch. 30mn after that it will be too late already.

I'll be working at that time, and I'm the PA architect. So no city for us, we will have to relocate all our houses.

@Joshie .. aahh .. the naivety

Naritus will have 10 city halls placed on Tatooine within the first HOUR of the patch going live ( more like 15 min). If your city is far from the politician trainer ... forget it ! Like ours .. Tusken City

I have already build the parts for two city halls as my PA wanted to place two cities (based on the preliminary TC requirements). Final assembly takes 5 min. Time for politician to train and run .. 15 min ... he needs bodyguards ... now we can try one.

pray for no lag

I keep hearing that little voice "DONT PLAY ON PATCH DAY !!!!" .... darm no choice when you are PA architect.

Have fun

Bonus question: Will I get reimbursed my 500 FPs and city hall if I can't place it?

I'd like to take a moment to further explain the current situation.

There's currently a very real database limitation that says how many player cities that can exist at the momemt. This cap will be raised in the next publish but for now it's what we have to work with.

Given that, there are a couple of choices:

1. Release cities with a planetary cap
2. Don't release cities for another month.

While I can't speak for everyone, my vote goes with option one. Luckily, this is the option the developers have chosen as well.

What does this mean?

It means that Cities are going to have to be the cooperative effort of large groups of people. (Part of the design anyway) This is particularly true on the three most populated planets.

It means that the lesser used planets will start seeing more use. This too is a Good Thing(tm).

It means that politicians are going to have to actually be politicians. They are going to have to win votes and not expect to just be a politician mule. This, to my mind, is a VERY Good Thing(tm).

It means that the big three planets will be a political arena where campaigning and voting are real gameplay elements. Again, a VERY Good Thing(tm).

Cities and the Politician class were never intended to be a reward for having played since the beginning. They weren't designed to be something every PA has. They also weren't supposed to be easy for everyone to "own." Ownership of the city is meant for the hands of its citizens and the care of the city for the hand of the person ELECTED to be caretaker.

Yes, there will be a lot of people disappointed to not have their personal city right away. But there are, built into the city and politician system, options for those very people.

The political game is upon us. How will you play the game?

Plinka, you saying there will be "a few people dissapointed" must be the understatement of the year...

If my PA (100+ strong) can't place our city in time, then we are not supposed have one? Ever? Given the citizen radius requirements, we'd easily get to the 2nd largest city all on our own, but now we get told that we will have to be VERY quick if we want to have a chance.

Also, if we are so lucky as to place our city among the 10 first (on naboo) then we will have a big influx of other players wanting to take over our city... that sounds like fun! Right...? NOT! We are not all PvP'ers, and in essence this limitation would make player cities a PvP feature as you would have players fighting players for control of all cities, at least on the major planets. So what about the people who would like to work on their city in peace, make it pretty.. have a nice market with vendors etc and not have to worry about a larger PA being literally forced to take over our city if they want to control a city of their own?

Bleh.. this just plan stinks of bad planning. Intentional or not.

See my post above - that will be how some "will play the game...." Build houses within 450 but outside the 150 radii. Take over the city. Destroy the city hall. Build your city hall.... SWG the only major MMORPG running on servers built in the 1970s... You know, just because this is a star wars game, didn't mean they had to use 1976 technology

I may be the only one to say this, but I love it. My group started the Player-City resource drive a month ago and have enough raw material, power cores, and wall modules to make 5 city halls in our storehouse. I have all the Apprentice points already to become a politician and we have a secluded site for our city.

Nabubu Spaceport City has been looking forward to this for 3 years, long before the game release, and are ready to become the first Metropolis on Wanderhome. This news doesn't bother me at all

Exactly! And since cities can't be registered on the map for at least a week, we'll all have no way of KNOWING if it's a waste of time to go throw down our 500 apprentice points.

Also, anyone who does get one of the first 10 cities on Tat, Naboo, and Corellia is now a target. Anyone who wants to maintain control over the city that they're spending so much time and money on had better either have a huge group or make very good use of zoning and hope that any big guild that missed out isn't clever enough to just surround them, get included when they expand, and run their own guild politician.

Maybe what the devs had in mind was to have more politician competition in cities on the main planets, but the effect it will have is to chase all the small guilds off those three planets. I never used to worry much about our 12-person PA town being overrun by Uber Guild X, but this lower town limit gives any large guild that's just a little too slow definate incentive to move in and take over an area that a smaller group may have been cultivating for months now.
