Thread: Cross-server citizen swap to get around the 10 person cap

Exactly, the thing here is, if you DO NOT even have 10 citizens for your city hall, then you had 0 initial planning for this city. Player cities have been planning to come out for months, and you couldn't scrape up 10 people? Since this city has no planning, it will most likely fizzle into a real piece of crap. Oh, and not only did your city have no planning, you must have no people skills either in game if you couldn't convince 10 real players to move in. You are wasting a player city slot and griefing many players in the process. I hope the DEVS fix this to stop griefers like you.

The devs will fix this exploit, but at what cost?

the rest of us.

That's right, those of us that do things the ethical way and play by the rules are going to pay for the cheapness of others. I hope the devs find an easy fix for this without ruining the fun for the rest of us.

And as far as this being an exploit - I really don't think of it as that. I have spent all day today and will spend all day tomorrow helping out my fellow SWG citizens. I will be running very slowly, repeatedly across the SWG countryside for no benefit to myself - I don't need any more citizens - I am just doing it to help others now...

I must say, I have met some extremely nice and cool people today, people who really worked hard and care about the city and community they are creating. I am more than happy to log on each of these servers a few hours a week if that is what it takes to be a "non-exploit." I thought that is what this game was about, having fun and meeting people that you wouldn't otherwise meet.

I don't really see how this could be considered an exploit. I pay the fee every month, I have characters on servers I only log on onceevery month or two. Is that an exploit? That I have"stolen" a character name from a server and reserved it for myself? What about all the lot swappers out there that exchange harvester slots? A ton of that goes on. What about big guilds that use their lots for their crafters? Combat types that just go place them and give the crafters admin powers without compensation? Is that an exploit?

I contractually have the right to create one character on each server per account. There are restrictions on what I can do with those characters, but the restrictions don't encompass this situation. So not only do I not consider this an exploit, I would argue that I am legally entitled to do what I am doing...

But again, I wish everyone the best with their player cities when EVERYONE will be able to get one next week. If you want any help or need any information, let me know. I am happy to help out anyone to the extent that I can.

You soon will get your player cities, I am sorry you didn't get yours the first day, I didn't think I would get one as I had to be at work. But somehow I was still able to when I got home. Soon you will get your player cities and be able to enjoy them. Games are supposed to be fun, it is too bad SOE has made this game a chore all too often....

I live in a real city that is in game now. We have invested months, up to a year planning ahead. We have a website, active and complex government, and find new citizens everyday that would love to live and grow in it. I am not complaining because my city didn't get a hall. I'm complaining because this exploit will ruin player cities.

You go on about outposts; are you saying that all you want is to be an outpost? Then why are you trying to reach the 10 citizen mark to achieve real city status, taking up one of the city slots?

So what was the whole point of the rant on outposts? For all the other groups that don't have a shot at forming a real city while you exploit your way up there? You do not deserve to have a city IMO, as demonstrated by your posts here. You were just lucky and grabbed a slot to call a section of land your own. Normally I'm an easy going guy, but this is down right wrong, and I think even you realize that.

This exploit has the potential to allow 5 citizens access to metropolis status.

Ah, now I see our miscommunication. 10 - 19 citizens is an outpost. Less than 10 citizens, your hall will poof - you lose any outpost/city status. From 10-19 citizens you are an outpost and you do NOT count against the cap. Only once you hit 20 do you (and btw I have 20 real server players in my city, but their houses are not in the initial 150 radius, but will be in the 200 radius - we have a lake in the middle of town hehe My main thought for this whole idea was to save outpost that only had 5 citizens and now suddenly and unexpectedly are told they need 10.

Again, 10-19 citizen outposts have NO effect on any cap. They won't prevent your city from growing. The confusion I think is that before it took 5 for outpost and 15 for level 2 village. But now it takes 10 for outpost, and 20 fora level 2 village. And again, the 10-19 citizen outpost does not affect the cap at all.

I hope that relieves some of your concern.

*cough**cough* Planetside *cough*

yeah, I have to agree with you there... I think Sony is getting away from the core of the game and trying to transform it into something else... but that's neither here or there..

Back to the topic at hand...

I'm glad they are changing the caps on the cities... I think a 10 citizen minimum is just fine... and that not counting towards the 10 city lots on each major planet is even better.... requiring 20 citizens to upgrade to class 2 also sounds great..

Ok... so now everyone knows where I stand... here come the caveats...

let's say we have 10 cities on naboo, size unimportant, and 50 outposts with 20 or more citizens....

for whatever reason one of the cities goes down, doesn't matter why, it just does.

who what how decides which of the outposts gets upgraded into a city to fill that other slot?

whoever places the hall first...?

I just got back to starwars after being out of town for a week. I want to live in a city really bad but I want a real city with real people.

I don't really mind this whole idea....what bugs me is the fact inacctive citizens will auto vote for the current mayor. What if someday I want to start a politician in the city I live in??? Would mean nothing because the current mayor would allways win with all those auto-votes.

I can't wait till they fix this.....and they will....so this great city you are creating.....don't get to used to being in charge ...the auto-vote for inactive players WILL be nerfed...mark my words

The auto-vote might, but we are all active players and we already told each other we would log on once a week to vote for each other. So it is not really about that.

I've agreed initially, but after I got a disturbing in-game request, I am pulling out. Someone wanted me to go over to their server and become a resident, but they weren't the mayor. They wanted me to vote for them and not the incumbent.

This is like dirty politics at its finest. Using dead people to vote is almost the same thing.

Shame on you (and you know who you are...)

Again, I can see the concerns on this. However, I'll add this...

I'm not going to join another city. I'm not "taking away from" another city's population, because none of my own little group intends to join another city, either. We have our little cluster of houses away from everyone else. Maybe we're antisocial, or misanthropic. Maybe we just like the idea of a little town of our own. And for anyone who says it's easy to find people to live in your town in the game, well, I'm sorry, but you aren't me. I'm very picky about my neighbors. Part of what makes my gaming experience fun for me is to keep quality company. If I meet some, they will be invited, and I can choose to let those "empty" houses (used for storage, museums, whatnot) decay and eventually be destroyed to control the population. But if we do not have ten, we are not moving our homes to join a city. If a city comes to us, we will move our homes to get away from it.

Yes, this could get wholly out of hand. But, like everything else, I think that there's a line. If someone is using this tactic to bump their city way up in the rankings, having a metropolis of five, I think that's very wrong. I think that would be prohibitive, however, since those five would have to be unbelievably rich. But not all of us are like that. I never want my town to graduate from an Outpost, and if I do, I will drum up the numbers myself, not use a "cheat". Further, my friends and I will always have majority vote. Empties will not outnumber us. So a new mayor would have little chance anyway.

Not everyone is like me. Not everyone has what I consider to be a legitimate reason for this. I just want three to five new residents so I can have my outpost. It will always been an outpost, with my mission terminal, a garden, and maybe a faction terminal. There's plenty of precident for this in real life. I'm willing to pay my city hall fees, and my monthly fees, for it. And maybe, if you need a place to rest sometime, you'll appreciate it, too.

Bah no edit... And again, most of us are making OUTPOSTS (level 1, 10-19 citizens), so they won't affect the CITY cap (level 2 to level 5 or 20 citizens to 85+)

This is BEYOND lame.

I personally didn't believe that people would take these "private cities" to the extreme the doomsayers were predicting. Boy, was I wrong!

I met the mayor of Ghost Town in game (who posted above).. and all I can say is that I am saddened and disgusted that people would rather have fake residents than open their doors to people who actually play on their server. Never mind the fact that all these fake residents will vote for the encumbant! I would never join a city (or patronize any vendors there) if I knew that it wasn't even comprised of real people.

What the heck is the point of a 5 person city, or a 7 person one? Just to get a mission terminal? Like the missions are that great on the starter planets.

I honestly hope that SOE comes up with some way to stop this..
