Star Wars Galaxies is a community environment, not ONLY all-out PvP.

I, along with a few real-life friends have intended on building exactly what we have begun - our own city. It would be just the few of us if what we desired didn't require so many people, but so be it. TakeYOUR wanna-be civil-war elsewhere.

Hytho,

SWG is ABOUT the Civil War... Empire Divided.... sure you have a choice if you want to be a part of it... but you don't have a choice if that war wants to make YOU, your friends, or where your city is a part of it.... This is a MMORPG.... it really doesn't provide for "individualists", who just want to do their own thing and ignore everyone else... unfortunately for you its not set up in a closed environment.....

On another note it is not unrealistic to have 48 hours. All it requires is you head back to your home and "check in".... there is no where in the galaxy that you can't get from 1 place to the other in more than 2 hours let alone 2 days... especially with mounts

the point is a city should be just what it is a city.... living AND growing... not simply a place to park a house and watch it grow

Hythos,

You are contradicting yourself. You say it is a community game, but you want to limit your community to just your friends? I am not saying this should be PVP, but their should be politics and an openness to communities.

Mk,

Unfortunately too many people just wantto "do their own thing" and have no one bother them... SWG is like real life... and that situation never exists in real life unless you are a hermit

If you don't want someone marching in and taking over your city, stop them. You are the mayor. Don't go crying to the dev's for a cloak of mechanical invincibillity against the big bad world. Be a leader. That's what you're supposed to be. You want control of your city? Make sure everyone votes for you. Be a good mayor, fight for your city, and earn your votes. You're a politician. You're in power because you are the best for the job. Now work for it.

haha you don't seem to understand that 1/2 these kids out there could give a crap less about all that RP stuff. They just want to take something that they didn't put any work into creating. They'll laugh in your face if you try to roleplay them into voting for you.

JTGAlpha,

I have no idea who your comment is meant for.... anyone in particular, or just a general observation?

Not you personally Posi, but 95% of the town mayors out there. This is not any kind of personal attack. But because you and I know each other it is easier for me to direct it at you. But you do have lots of company.

Ah yes the contradiction......

My town is ( or was, it has been disbanded and we joining with another group of independents who have the same goal ) far from civilization. Because I am willing to fight the same fight that you are.

But I don’t want to do it by cheating.

I wouldn’t lock the PA hall so citizens cant vote

I don’t like the idea of ghost citizens ( I know you can ding me on this ). A ghost citizen is someone that doesn’t actually play on a server but just owns property there so that their vote automatically goes to the incumbent. ( I know I am schizophrenic, I my be guilty of things, but I would rather no one be able to do that )

I wouldn’t pepper an area of land with unused buildings in an effort to keep others from being able to live there.

Personally I would disable zoning rights, I would just allow a mayor to reserve a few small areas for futures civic buildings but NOT give him the power to keep others out.

The problem here is people want to be dictators, not mayors. They want to be kings, not politicians. They want to OWN the towns, not govern the towns. They want guaranteed control, not an open political system.

The way I see most cities right now, they are not cities at all, they are just new perks for PA's.

Do you think the democrats considered it a hostile takeover when republicans took over the congress? You better believe they did! Do you think the republicans considered it a hostile takeover when Clinton so soundly defeated Bush Sr, you better believe they did!

What you seem to mean by a hostile takeover is anyone that is not named Posi as mayor ( ok I am ribbing you a little this time ). That city is NOT yours, you lost it the moment you set down the town hall in my opinion. It belongs to whoever wants to live there.

That is not the way it is, but it is the way it should be.

I hate the way Player cities are implemented right now, because they are not player cities at all. They are jsut PA extentions.

There should actually be fewer player cities, but the one that exist should be good ones. Free ones, where anyone might become mayor, where politics are real. Cities that are not just an extentions of PA's.

Then make Civic structures free.

They almost are free, the pittance they cost for a building that lasts forever is the smallest expense I can imagine a town to have long term.

I disagree with the original post. I have lots to do to keep the city in check. I'm constantly busy with mayoral stuff. Ihardly everget a break. I like it. Of course, in the far future our duties will begin to dwindle off. They can add content for us then. But we'll always be busy.

I'm with you man. You expressed my opinion to a tee. We are trying to build communities here, not open another front on the griefer PvP wars. I don't need that **edit**.

The guy that thinks Politicians have nothing to do is full of it. I've done nothing else BUT politics since our city was laid. If hes a Mayor, sounds like he's not doing it right.

These people really do need a PvP server wher ethey can go abuse eachother and leave the rest of us in peace.

You all are missing my point. I don't want PVP and I don't want griefing. I want everyone to be able to move into a city without having to be invited. I want anyone who wants to, to be able to run for mayor, and run on their ideas not on the backing of a PA.

Right now everywhere I look, even my own city I must admit, zoning rights are enabled. People are invited to join a city, but must have the blessing of the controlling entity. People are discouraged from running for mayor since it will slow down development. There is no discussion on how best to grow a city, how best to fund a city, what specialization a city should have.....

I guess maybe to get this what should have happened was the devs should have dropped a few city halls and not enabled zoning rights. Anyone and everyone could have moved in, and nobody could claim ownership, since the city hall was dropped by the devs.
