Thread: Galactic Planning Commission Considers Budget Cuts
The costs at the upper end may end up being a bit too too harsh, but at the lower end they're small enough that the cost per citizen (for almost no gain for a level 1 city) allows the city to survive and even attract new citizens.
With 100k for an outpost, well, the outpost I was hoping to establish on Dantooine and see grow slowly in size would never even get started.
It's true that we don't want cities sprinkled everywhere, all over the map--but I think that it's also important that a small city can be stable for a while and then grow, rather than having a situation where only cities ready for explosive growth can exist at all.
They really should lower the cost of gardens a bit as well who is going to want to have many gardens if they wind up forcing all the city members to pay 20 30k a week to keep them up.

I agree perhaps the cost of the city hall's upkeep should start at 50k to avoid cities popping up everywhere but still allowing for folks to start somewhat slowly.I still think thecity hall upkeep should not eceed 100k. Perhaps level1 could be 50k, level2 could be75k, and levels4 &5 could be 100k.
Then perhaps a closer look could be taken at the upkeep cost of the add-ons. Gardens really should be fairly cheap since they are only for aesthetics.
Cities are gonna pop up like crazy no matter what the maintenance is, just take a look at Guild Halls for example.
Having a starting cost of 25k sounds great to me, cause that means I'll be able to blow more money on other Civic structures and city beautification objects.
The small cities will quickly die I suspect. I like the new figure as it will give cities that want to grow a chance to grow w/o taxing the heck out of the starting population.
Thanks and keep up the good work Plinka.
Fact one: the powergamers wil get their cities, even if it costs 10 millions a week.
Fact two: allowing only powergamers to have cities is making specific content theirs only.
Fact three: cheap content will give everybody a shot at a city. Notice I didn't say a successful one.
I for myself find it strange the higher the city, the higher the costs. Per capita costs should DECREASE the higher the city gets. That's called scale savings. Taking 50 people to one place should be less expensive than having a lone house in the wilds.

I agree with your three facts, and that is why I welcome this change. On your other point, per capita costs are miniscule for the higher rank cities versus the outpost.Outpost with 5 people = 5k each just for the hall. Level 4 city with 50 people = 2k each for the hall. So there is efficiency of scale built into this system.

25k almost sounds TOO cheap . . . maybe 50k would take people through Rank 1 and 2? It should hurt a LITLLE bit to start a city, after all . . . .
While I welcome the cut in expense 25k does seem a bit cheap. However, doing the math this would allow my outpost to afford a mission terminal or two or maybe a bank.

Thunderheat, can you find a way for someone else to pay for 1 month of Plinka's user fee? I would be more than willing to do it for all the work they have done.

Forgive my ignorance, but what were the costs before?
Prior to this change city hall was 100k per week regardless of the size of the city...
