Thread: To Everyone that is planning to take over someone elses City
well.. I try not to think of it as my city.. it is our city. That is my understanding...
You see... it is kinda like your children... I put almost everything I have into this city I help built.. I literally lay down every brick
I am helping it grow (not being a politician.. another person will run in my steed.. but I'm still organizing)
I hate to see all that destroy.... if it is taken over.. fine.. no problem.. but if it is destroy... well.. all that work will be lost... that will sadden me.
of course I would use all my diplomacy to save the city.. but if I lose.. I want to know that I lose cause my diplomacy skill was poor.. not that the player is just wanting to hurt others.
yes.. when I use the term "our city" it is belong to every citizen in the city ![]()
I hate to use the word "my city" since it implies.. it is my own..
It would take a lot of organization and people to take over a city, unless you don't have many people. If you don't have many people, then you really don't have more right to that city hall than say, the larger group of people you beat out time wise. Cities go to mayors with the most votes, not who doesn't have a life and sat around all day during patch day to set up a hall.
If your city gets 'taken over' or more to the point, you lost an election, then maybe, just maybe, you didn't deserve to have the right to a large city. For those that worked with a lot of people and get them to vote for them, then good for them. It takes a lot of work and organization to get those votes. Good job.
Personally I do not blame the people doing this. I first blame the suits at SoE for not buying each server it's own database server, it goes by clusters. Then I blame the devs for not glazing over the stupid suits and telling them a single db server per server, not cluster. Then you have to blame those 5 people groups for setting up a city hall fully knowing there was limited city space and that they did not have the population to have a real city. Others far better organized and more willing to work with people, hence the much larger group, are the ones that should be getting these cities.
Sorry, you and 4 friends does not a city make. Hell that isn't even a real PA.
What we are doing with the city we started is a litle different, we only have 7 people in our PA, and have invited a few independts to join us. Our entire intent is to build a city not based oupon a PA and then let go. We will stop fretting once we reach a critical size that it would be difficult for a PA to step in and take over. ( at our location it is not likely many would be interested until we get a shuttleport )
We invite other politicians, in fact I am in a huge mud slinging fight with an independent politician we invited to join and my small PA has agreed to vote at the last moment for him secretly. ( he does not know it ). I am goign to be glad to give up my mayor's spot, and then will fight to get it back next week. Maybe I will, and maybe I wont. I have told the PA to do whatever they want, after these two weeks. We 7 arent even loyal ( politically) to each other.
A lot more fun that way.
We are having a blast with this! The trick is to stop worrying and relax, enjoy the game.
Simple solution,
Enable zoning rights shoudl ahve been done first day!
Second, put all Xp needed into milita branch in order ot manage militia immediately and make certain theya re people you can trust.
third, /cityban /citywarn anyone not welcome there that has infringed. then smoke them till tehy are all solid black bars.
Nuff said.
Chibi-Bar, I am in agreance with you. I feel the city hall I am the mayor of belongs to the citizens. Did I spent tons of cash and resource to get the hall? yes I did. did I take the time to find the spot to place the hall? yes I did. Should I be the one that runs it for all eternity? That is up to the citizens. Currently we only have one Non-PA member in the city. Not because we won't let ppl in, but because we haven't had anyone ask to join us. When I was asked by the one person, I granted zoning rights right away and told them where we prefered the houses to go. he agreed. he is now on the ballot as well as me. Not to take the city over, just to get his 100Xp for his own vote, which we found out yesterday he didn't get.
If the citizens at anytime felt he would make a better mayor, then they know I have no problem with them voting him in. I have no problem with ANY politician coming in and beating me in the election. The only fear I have is of another city sending it's ppl over to take the city over and destroy it. if it stays up and prospers and I am allowed to be a citizen, I don't care who runs it. Hell I could have those skill points back. lol
What is needed is a system that lets the citizens vote if the mayor desides to drop the city hall. If the mayor doesn't get 75% or higher votes in his favor, then he can't destroy it. He could remove all the funds from the treasury, but then the citizens would just vote him out the next week and replenish it before the hall dropped. would this solve the problem, no it wouldn't completely but it would make things a lot harder. majority is great for the election, but it should be higher for the destruction of the city hall.
finaly, NO city belongs to one person, or even a small group of ppl. It belongs to all residents. if ppl drop houses outside the city waiting for it to expand, talk with them. Find out what their intentions are. if they just want a city to call their own, invite them!! make them wfeel welcome in your city. let them know what your plans are for the city. Maybe they will decide to just join you instead of vote you out. Maybe they might have a better plan that would further the city and you could let them win for the better of the comunity. Politicians need to get out of the "I spent it it is mine" Mind set and start thinking about what the citizens need. if allowing 40 ppl to place outside our city and take it will end up bettering our city, I would invite a few of them to place inside the city to make it expand. Atleast that way we could get the benifits of the larger city faster. ![]()
First off I did build my own city and don't plan on taking over another's city... but life is about change.... and interruptions.... and about careful planning and hard work that often gets ruined by even the slightest thing... make a city is the same.... in fact SWG should in some level expect the same from its players....
political coups are a part of life.... whether its through elections... or physical takeovers.... Cities are not Guilds.... they aren't membership clubs as some think or want them to be.... sure you should have the right to make a city and do with it in the manner you want.... but expect adversity... expect change.... and yes we all should expect that at one time or another we'll lose the cities we originally built... its called change and evolution
Exactly right, the only difference is, I am actually planning to loose mine
The entire point of my building this one was to make it an open city, not PA controled.
Only cost me a few hundred thou, The building s are cheap ( I make em )
Surius we are on the same thought...
As long the city survives and prosper
I'm happy. (It is better if I get to live in it too).
Democracy vs Dictatorship
If you get to vote, you get to loose. If you want to be a long term mayor of a city, you will have to make sure your citizens like you more than your opponents. This is a risk that the mayor of a city will have to take, if they want it to be bigger than an outpost.
And no, I don't plan to take over anyone's city.

If you want to safeguard your city just act like MrPLow and be a tyrant. Lock innocent citizens out of city hall and raise taxes. Even if they aren't trying to take over the city and just don't want to vote for you. Being a jerk is a good way to safe guard "Your" city. This successfully got me to leave. I then found a nice city where the mayor talks to his citizens about plans instead of griefing.
I left a city becasue the Mayor said they were covering the map with unused buildings to make sure it never got past size 3, they have a limited number of members and that was the only way to insure thier didctatorship.
I left and founded my own open city, another hole they will have to fill.
