Thread: Take over another guild's city.
By the by, the act of taking over a city through insertion of an outside mayor is referred to as the "Fort Count Dracula Maneuver".
You can call it FCDM for short.
The funny/sad thing is that the only reason I was even home to TRY to place a city was that the night before a storm blew a tree down on my car. I thought it was a sign that I was suppposed to stay home and place my city, but it turned out to just be a tree falling on my car.
Maybe its just me, but don't you all think that the ability to take over another guilds city (or anyones) is stupid and needs to be fixed? It seems to me that the devs over looked this possibility, or at least did'nt consider it to be a problem. Other than True Fellowship I dont see many guilds that have enough members to have 80 citizens for the metropolis. The devs always promote group and teamwork actions, but the fact that another guild or group could takeover your city turns me cold. Oh and I also agree with the person who posted that people will try to do this, "its how they get their kicks"

Amen brother. It is a shame.
If I may ask, Rissen. Was the location you moved to on Talus or Dantooineas we were told? Or did you simply string us along and wait until we left before moving to a new Corellian location. If it is the latter, then this is the only part I would have trouble with, as we were informed that if we were patient a Corellian spot would be made available, and were in financial negotiations to make the deal smooth.
I hope we weren't misled, because really there would have been nothing we could have done to stop you from quickly destroying/placing a new City Hall, but you could have saved us a lot of waiting by being honest.
we both "lost." we could have both won. too bad really, it didnt have to end that way.
You all seem to have a pretty big misconception on just what cities really are. Cities do not belong to guilds. They belong to the residents who have built homes within its borders. A city does not belong to the person who placed the city hall, just as a son or daughter does not belong to his or her parents.

The main problem with cities is how quickly someone is given citizenship within the city. In the real world we usually have at least a 1 year residency requirement before someone can register to vote. If we did not have this, then everyone would go to every state and vote in every election. We need the residency requirements tweaked for player cities.

Raystonn, a fine thought and ultimately what i think would work the best.... the misconception as you stated is not that someone can take over the city... its that you OWN the city.
no one owns it... its public property... and yes, i do think zoning was primarily intended for structure placement and as a sidebar to help with random griefing but not to stop others from coming in and running for mayor and maybe booting your PA leader out of office.
the devs stated they were NOT putting private cities in at this time.... seems to me thats a pretty clear indication that they wanted a system where people had the ability to pick up and move in and out of cities all the time, not being blocked out of cities for fear you might not be as popular.
