By the by, the act of taking over a city through insertion of an outside mayor is referred to as the "Fort Count Dracula Maneuver".

You can call it FCDM for short.

The funny/sad thing is that the only reason I was even home to TRY to place a city was that the night before a storm blew a tree down on my car. I thought it was a sign that I was suppposed to stay home and place my city, but it turned out to just be a tree falling on my car.

Well I think the situation referred to was a case of bad timing, bad luck, and some bad communication. We were ready to place a hall and our first location was no viable so we moved a bit and thought we had flat basically clear land but client issues or what not suddenly 4 houses appeared as placement was in progress then more. The guild already in place was upset about us messing up their layout and organization and we didn't want to lose a place in the cap limit that we rightfully had via preparation and timing all valid ideas on both sides. Since they at least claimed to be more interested in the organization than the city at this point we lokoed into moving and did. Now with cap limits being eased in the next couple of weeks this should allow the other group to be prepared and organized enough to hopefully be primed and ready for their city. I truly wish them luck and we have meant them no ill intent. Joining them was thrown around but they were imperial only and we were mixed so we merely moved to allow them the area to arrange and prepare. Good luck guys and hopefully no hard feelings.

Maybe its just me, but don't you all think that the ability to take over another guilds city (or anyones) is stupid and needs to be fixed? It seems to me that the devs over looked this possibility, or at least did'nt consider it to be a problem. Other than True Fellowship I dont see many guilds that have enough members to have 80 citizens for the metropolis. The devs always promote group and teamwork actions, but the fact that another guild or group could takeover your city turns me cold. Oh and I also agree with the person who posted that people will try to do this, "its how they get their kicks"

If I may ask, Rissen. Was the location you moved to on Talus or Dantooineas we were told? Or did you simply string us along and wait until we left before moving to a new Corellian location. If it is the latter, then this is the only part I would have trouble with, as we were informed that if we were patient a Corellian spot would be made available, and were in financial negotiations to make the deal smooth.

I hope we weren't misled, because really there would have been nothing we could have done to stop you from quickly destroying/placing a new City Hall, but you could have saved us a lot of waiting by being honest.

it is my belief that they strung us along and lied to us. the fact that they hit us with a 10k tax before they picked up the hall tells me that.

we both "lost." we could have both won. too bad really, it didnt have to end that way.

I just want to clear one thing up, the 10k tax you speak of was my money I placed as treasury in the hall when it was placed, we merely took our money back out before destroying the hall, it was not a tax on any of your members

I don't think the DEV's intended there to be hostile takeovers like what is being talked about at this time, but I do think they expected political takeovers, just like in REAL LIFE! If they didn't, why would they have put protections in like zoning? You think it was just so the Mayorcan lay out the placement of the city only?

You all seem to have a pretty big misconception on just what cities really are. Cities do not belong to guilds. They belong to the residents who have built homes within its borders. A city does not belong to the person who placed the city hall, just as a son or daughter does not belong to his or her parents.

The main problem with cities is how quickly someone is given citizenship within the city. In the real world we usually have at least a 1 year residency requirement before someone can register to vote. If we did not have this, then everyone would go to every state and vote in every election. We need the residency requirements tweaked for player cities.

Raystonn, a fine thought and ultimately what i think would work the best.... the misconception as you stated is not that someone can take over the city... its that you OWN the city.

no one owns it... its public property... and yes, i do think zoning was primarily intended for structure placement and as a sidebar to help with random griefing but not to stop others from coming in and running for mayor and maybe booting your PA leader out of office.

the devs stated they were NOT putting private cities in at this time.... seems to me thats a pretty clear indication that they wanted a system where people had the ability to pick up and move in and out of cities all the time, not being blocked out of cities for fear you might not be as popular.
