Thread: Not that anyone will change their mind, but a word on cross-server vote swapping
Why is everyone so scared of "ghost towns"? Does it effect you and your plans? If you don't want to have "ghost citizens", then don't allow them Zoning Rights to place structures in your town, or don't ask for them to come join your town. But for those of us who have citizens that can't log on all the time to vote, or who quit playing the game, don't punish us. How is a city with "ghost citizens" going to effect your city or you? It shouldn't. So just chill out and work on your city and leave everyone else alone. =)

Alot of people have good reason to be concerned about Ghost Citizens...
1. Ghost citizens can be used to block other legit towns for expanding cuz that ghost town could count as part of the cap.
2. Say I have a city 20 ppl and now qualify for the rank of village, some moron can place his 25,30, or 35 ghost houeses just outside my raduis. When my city expands they now become citizens and can vote whoever they want in.
In RL thats voter fraud which is a fedral offense

I don't want to stop your ability of role playing on whatever number of servers you are on. The ideal is to let you play, have houses or anything else you want execpt to right to vote on more than one server. You could still be part of any city you just cant vote other than whatever primary server you choose.
I feel AFK voting should be removed. There have been many good arguments for removing it and only a couple of week arguments for keeping it.
To suggest that AFK voting should be kept because your new city is too far out and people won't want to run all the way out to it to vote is wacked. It's once a week, anytime during the week!not everyday. If youdon't want tomake the run once a week then you're really need to ask yourself if you're truly dedicated to the city. I make the 10k run to Pompeii at least once a day. God I can't wait for the shuttle to be built! But still I feel that afk voting is bad and should be removed.
For the other argument that you don't want to have to remind your voters to vote for ya. Ummm hello your a politician!Politicians talk to their citizens andthey do it alot. If you can't do it or don't like the idea of shaking hands and kissing babies then guess what you're not going to last long as mayor. Just like if you don't like shooting a gun you're not going to make it as Bounty Hunter.
The best reason for getting rid of AFK voting is the enhancement to the political aspect of the politician profession. Other posters have said it well, it will promote a more realistic feel of politics when you have to rally your citizens to vote. Common you wanted to be a politician didn't you?
I conceed that getting rid of AFK voting won't stop people from having ghosts in their town, but it will bring down the numbers a fair bit.

Ah...the favorite argument of this "me" generation. "It doesn't hurt anyone else, so it's ok"
Fact is, it does hurt someone else. You are using up a limited amount of land as well as a limited number of cities that can even be placed. At least have the common decency to make sure that your citizens are folk who want to be LIVING in the city, not a bunch of mules from another server because you can't drum up a real population.
The easiest solution is to you to declare voting residence on only one galaxy. That way you prevent people for other city's in another galaxy from coming over to plant phantom houses in other galxies.
That might be the easiest solution, but I'm not sure that it's the best. Therehave beenactive role-players who participated in events and organized groups on more than one server in other games.I don't have a problem with people working with others across servers to establish their citiesas long asthey are somehow invested ineach server beyond just creating a character and plopping down a house.

There's quit a few of us that play on multiple servers/galaxies. Variety is the spice of life. Gimping my, and others, play style is not acceptable.
The best solution is to remove auto votes for incumbents. It’s always been the best solution and will always be the best solution. Politicians should have to work for their votes.
Cities that resort to cross-server ghost citizen swapping are weak. They will become essentially ghost towns. Might as well move next to Kor Vella and pretend to be the mayor there if you can't drum up enough real citizens to build your city.
If someone has time to legitimately play multiple characters, more power to them. But the cities that are swapping houses and giving the home folk admin rights to allow them to pay and keep the inflated population...how lame is that?
I've already promised to my server that my city will never knowingly engage in this practice, that every citizen will be a "real" player who has true ownership in the city's future.
