Thread: News Flash: Planetary Caps Leaked

Hi Folks,

I think Plinka has this all wrong or didnt explain it properly. Im just guessing but I think they mean 10 LEVEL 4 SHUTTLE PORT cities and not 10 town halls. What they would be trying to restrict is terminals with 100 destinations. There is no logic to restricting town halls because they would want the money sink.

So what we need is clarification on whether they are restricting HALLS to 10 or CITIES to 10.

DATELINE CORELLIA: We've just learned that the Galactic Planning Commission will be limiting the initial numbers of cities per planet. While commissioners have not returned any of our calls on this important matter, our inside source, known only as Deep Snout, has confirmed this information.

According to Deep Snout the big three planets will be limited to 10 new cities each, while the other buildable planets will each support 25 new cities.

Deep Snout went on to say that this number may be raised at some future date, but that this current limitation will be enforced for the inital city expansionists.

To recap, it looks like the following caps will be in place on the number of new planetary cities allowed:

Tatooine: 10
Naboo: 10
Corellia: 10
Rori: 25
Talus: 25
Lok: 25
Dantooine: 25

We'll bring you more on this breaking story as it develops.

Once again a sign the devs are total morons.. What about the people that wanted to build outposts in the middle of nowhere? Who cares if they were number 11?

Oh, and if you don't build your city in time, what do you do? Grief another city, surround the initial radius, wait for it to expand, vote in your own mayor, /destroystructure their city hall, and then build the city you were denied at first.....

Pure genius devs... took me 10 seconds to think of that.....

Idiots learn nothing from other land rush fiascos like in UO where raph is from...

This is absolutely nuts... I was stressed enough getting poised to beat our neighbors to placement.. now I've got to beat my entire planet?! Come on?!

Where's the fun in that? This is too much devs.. this is absolutely too much. Get rid of these caps!

Yeah, when will devs learn fun = more players and $... Stuff like this will cause the last 70k or so subscribers to cancel their accounts....

It is amazing that no MMORPG developer has realized why MMORPGs aren't mainstream... they all fight for a slice of a niche market, meanwhile if they were smart they would realize they could expand the size of their market by about a factor of 10....

This is not really news. It's common sense and the devs aren't making a cap, it's the actual physical restrictions and because of this I'm doubting these so called dev imposed caps. I doubt you can place 25 cities on any planet.

Think about it.

16KmX16km Maps (actualy 15X15 with 500 meter buffers)

A player city has a 450 meter radius. (1000 meter diamater which includes 50 meter buffer)

On a completly flat map with no non-buildable zones, how many cities do you think can be placed if it's perfectly organized?

Now try to apply this to planets with no build zones, terrain issues (water and mountains), and no player organized planet wide planing.

On a 15 x 15 square map there is room for about 225 1km square cities, right? So in other words, a lot more than 10

I hope this is not true, and if it is true, I hope it is 10 shuttleport level cities. Cause my group of 20 has a nice spot laid out and ready for a town hall once the patch goes out. I know most of them are going to be PISSED if this is true. Some of us took a couple of hours moving things to our new site so we could "claim" our spot.... sheesh!

The irony will be player cities that are already in being for months, like my own Maris Paradis, being knocked out of the running.

I have tomorrow off. I can ONLY HOPE that the patch comes tomorrow. My work schedule includes me not being home until 8PM Pacific.

That'd be synonymous.

A control method like this is a good idea, although I'd rather they would have stuck with the prohibitively high City Hall costs to try and regulate the number of cities per planet - would have had the nice dual function of a deterrent and a money sink. But, if this is the way it'll go, then we'll just have to be fast - it's not like we weren't already planning to put a Hall down right after the patch anyway.

Hm, so 130 cities per server...should be enough. I'm a bit disappointed though that there are only 10 cities per major planet, but I think it is an opportunity for Rori and Talus...honestly who ever spents more time there than necessary to maintain a harvester? Maybe people will move to these less used planets.

Its not the fact of having a cap that bugs. Its the fact that it is not released well before and can be discussed and people wont make plans for there cities. So basically if you are 12 and out of school, or unemployed, forget the 4 months of planning you have done to get a city down.. I don't know how many countless hours i have spent in here reading, and in test center on player cities. If I would have known this i would have done something better with my time. 10 for the starting planets, what a joke!
