It works in Chicago

Jedi will be rare and difficult - No
Increased Dev communication - No
CU will balance combat - No
Most of the bugs from launch fixed - No
saintchuck will continue to pay - No

- I supported the CURB, the Devs and the attempt to make SWG a better game and have realized it didn't work so I'm quitting in less than 2 days and won't be tricked into coming back again. Trick me once, shame on you...

Who cares what someone is doing in their own city? Why should it trouble you if they have "ghost citizens" in their town? It doesn't effect you, or your "fun". And if you don't like it, you don't have to do it when you run your own city. =)

Everyone should just chill out.

I don't see this will be a problem long term... imagine a city with 50 real residents, all paying their own maintence, donating to the city funds, and running multiple successful businesses. It'll be a place people want to visit, and sales taxes will make quite a hefty profit in time.

Now imagine one with five residents paying the tax on 50 houses. They aren't going to have much spare cash to donate to the city, and things like sales tax will be very low. The city will be poor, not only in community, but the people living there will be spending most of their cash on house maintence for buildings that add nothing to the city. How long can they realistically keep it up? Ghost cities won't become popular places for visitors, and it's the visitor money that is essential in the long term.

Then what happens when that city wants to change mayor. Suddenly 45 of those votes can't be changed. They're stuck. Or they want to rezone an area. Again, they won't be able to do much about it. Most of those lot swapping people will not want to come back and sort it out. The only choice then is to let those houses decay, leaving bit holes in the city and citizenship numbers.

I think cities that use this approach will regret it in the longterm. Short term, they might grow faster and have a shuttleport first. But it won't be maintainable. Would you want to pay rent on ten houses indefinately? Money concerns would eventually force people to drop these houses, and get some real citizens. A few such houses might remain, but noone could really afford to do this in a big way for long.

Hate to be a prude, but this sounds border line cheat/exploit. Of course, technically its not, but ethically it is.

What about new mayors in your town? They wont have a chance with this in place. All the "fake" citizens will continously vote for the current mayor for as long as that mayor continues to pay their house bill. That sounds like a politician exploit in the making and a grief to other candidates for mayor in that town for the rest of the time the town is around.

I can understand if you're hurting just to meet the 10 citizen mark so you don't loose the city hall, however you can easily find people in game for this. If you can't convince anyone to live in your town that actually plays on your server, then maybe you shouldn't be using the town slot in the first place. It's not fair to all those groups that would easily be a level IV city by now if it were possible that didnt even get a chance to lay down a city hall due to the caps.

Again I hate to spoil the fun, but someone has to be the devil's advocate.

NOBODY would have a Level IV City by now. That will be at least 3 weeks, if not longer, as they have added this unknown period of time after your election and the city update - obviously trying to buy themselves time lol.

Maintaining a bunch of ghosts is prohibitively expensive, as noted somewhere above.

Anyone complaining about City Caps on "Civilized" planets gets absolutely NO sympathy from me. How many cities do we really need on Naboo? I personally wished they had not allowed ANY building of Player Cities on the noob planets.

My respect and admiration goes to those who build cities in the gaps on Planets like Lok and Dantooine, not those camping Theed in yet another way. You already have nice, safe little cities to hide in on Naboo, why do you need more?

Notice the "IF IT WERE POSSIBLE". Next time read the message before you set out to correct. I'm well aware of the time progression of cities.

Ok, I am kinda bummed about this problem..but i don't see many really doing it, and even if, most I know that have have 3 max "ghost" houses. And that was only done because of SOE bumping there city limit soon after stating 5. I am sorry, but I do not want auto-vote gone, I mean some of my City member have lives, and do not even show up sometimes at all a week. Others log in about 5min, stock a vendor then leave. PLEASE SOE, when you look into this, DO NOT HURT THE REAL PLAYER! I mean I should not have to worry about my mayor not staying in because the snobby guys in town wnat a new mayor, and people are not online. Please don't make us all have to be power gamers. I myself play once a week, thats it. I have a job and other RL issues. I highly enjoy this city idea, and I would hate for one good thing here to go bad over this. This is surely not going to an issue anyhow. I have seen alot of cities and most seem full of people. I also would like to think that if the limit is kept at 5 this problem will vanish. Just my 2cents..

==================
""DO NOT HURT THE REAL PLAYER""

What is a real player? The guy that plays once a week according to you? You sound more like a dabbler than a player.

""I mean some of my City member have lives, and do not even show up sometimes at all a week.""

We all have "lives". Some of us just love this game enough to make the time for it and sacrifice sleep or something else. We're glad you have a job and RL issues, we all do to. Welcome to the club.

""I mean I should not have to worry about my mayor not staying in because the snobby guys in town wnat a new mayor""

You'd make a great politician *sarcasm. You should try to win the trust and confidence of those "snobby guys" instead of trying for a dictatorship. These words could be spoken by someone like Saddamn.

If you can only play once a week, you shouldn't be a mayor then. Sorry but the profession obviously requires alot of in game time and responsibility, and if you can't meet this requirement, try another "once a week"-friendly profession. I didn't write the game, I just play it.

Exactly why this is such a big problem and will continue to be until something is done by the devs. If large groups do this, it ruins the entire integrity of player cities. Thanks for ruining player cities for me and everyone else.

I still think this is a lame tactic and only for the lazy and greedy people in this game. I find it ironic that they spend the time to post in this thread looking for fake citizens, yet I visit their server forum and there's no posts looking for new citizens. They're just power hungry jerks that want control over land and would rather dupe strangers they'll never see again into helping them out instead of meeting new people the old fashioned way.

I've stayed away from the post for a long time because it's sickening. Greedy people will always only consider themselves in their pursuits, and if you can't see how this is greedy, then that's exactly what you are. It's impossible to explain why taking up one of only 10 slots for just 4 "real" people is wrong. Either you see it or you don't. If you can't see why its greedy, congratulations you're one of them. Player cities were not put into the game to satisfy every single individual. They were placed for communities to develop, not individuals. You can argue you have a "right" to owning your own 1 km of land with exploits, but you don't. Player cities weren't added for you.

Flame away, I probably won't even see it because this post is a waste of time. I do know that the devs will fix it now. Luckily enough attention has been brought to this by myself and several others. I hope they make it extremely hard to cheat the system, that way when you see a player city, you will know it's something real, not a cheated phantom.
