this is minor

any mayor that pays maint on 30 or so houses will not be able to keep it up for long...

and many legitimate citizens will be very upset if they find out it's going to be more difficult for them to keep their city that they worked hard for just cuz a few people are swapping voters

How many politicians do you know that are ethical? Ah we hear it in the news all the time about how our politicians moral, ethical people. Pillars of our society... I am afraid not. The simple truth is that people in power (i.e. the mayor) will do what they need to do to stay in power. Yes, having ghost or phantom residents does disadvantage a new mayor trying oust the incumbent, but it should be that way. I can't speak for everyone out there, but I can tell you personally, I have invested a lot of money and resources into the building of the player city I live in (Thunderdome). I am not prepared to let all that just away...

I am not advocating have large numbers of ghost citizens, but having less than 10 will allow a city to stabilize at minimal level. Any a resident that doesn't like what their mayor is doing, is always welcome to move out and try a new city.

Politics are nasty; anyone who doesn't recognize that is naive.

Hate to be a prude, but this sounds border line cheat/exploit. Of course, technically its not, but ethically it is.

What about new mayors in your town? They wont have a chance with this in place. All the "fake" citizens will continously vote for the current mayor for as long as that mayor continues to pay their house bill. That sounds like a politician exploit in the making and a grief to other candidates for mayor in that town for the rest of the time the town is around.

I can understand if you're hurting just to meet the 10 citizen mark so you don't loose the city hall, however you can easily find people in game for this. If you can't convince anyone to live in your town that actually plays on your server, then maybe you shouldn't be using the town slot in the first place. It's not fair to all those groups that would easily be a level IV city by now if it were possible that didnt even get a chance to lay down a city hall due to the caps.

Again I hate to spoil the fun, but someone has to be the devil's advocate.

Ding ding ding.. We have a winner!

Uh, so WE don't want it, and YOU don't want it in for PvP--then why is it still there??

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY APPALLING!

IT IS THINGS THAT LIKE THIS THAT SPOIL THE GAME FOR GENUINE PLAYERS AND YOU MUST BE STOPPED AT ALL COSTS.

THE IDEA OF A GAME IS THAT YOU CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO SEE IF YOU ARE INTELLIGENT AND INGENIOUS ENOUGH TO WIN BY PLAYING THE RULES.

CHEATING IN THIS WAY JUST SPOILS IT FOR THE GENUINE PLAYERS WHO REALLY WANT TO PLAY.

What is the point of being the mayor of a city without genuine residents, especially when you know that your actions will have deprived other more committed people of their enjoyment?

I don't understand why so many people have to resort to cheats and fixes when they have not even tried their best to win fair and square... just what is the world coming to?

I'm going to report this as ABUSE and hope that Thunderheart & Plinkaare able to do something to stop you guys before you spoil the next election tomorrow. Your action will have a direct impact on the enjoyment of others and that is just not cool.

More importantly, as it is clear that you have no REAL interest in the politician profession, and as your actions will harm other players who do, I think that you should be exclude from the politician profession and will suggest as much.

The SOE team have put an enormous amount of effort into making an incredible gaming environment for the enjoyment of thousands of not millions of people - the behaviour of selfish individuals like you should not be allowed to spoil the game for others - that is not what MMORPGs are all about.

How do you think they feel to see all their hard work undermined and devalued by ridiculous plans like this?

Have some heart people - play the game as it was intended to be played, or do not play at all!

Ever have a house? Ever run any decent paying missions? On a single night my wife's Dancer with Pistol IV in Marksmen can earn over 100k credits on a planet like Endor grouping with friends.. Do you know how long even 30k pays the rent? Quite a time, like 50+ days. That's nearly 2 more months to make money. Hardly a stretch that they only have to run about 7 hours of missions to pay rent on 30 houses for 2+ months..

I love it. You use the DEVs as your justification to take out frustrations on other players. Great moral construct you've created there. So the DEVs deserve your ire. Fine. Do the other players on the server deserve it? No.

I still haven't seen an answer to my question before. Why won't any of you goons just post requests on your server's message boards requesting that you are looking for RP'ers to join your cities? Instead of trying to create something that people can say is really cool--you're just a bunch of exploiters trying to hang on to your land snatch.

I don't see why you can't get people to join your city? We just moved ours last night and with it we moved 15 people and 25 structures. I expect we will have well over 50 people by the end of the week that want to join the city as well. Why you would want to have empty housed with inactive players in your city is beyond me. Go buy Sim City if you want to just build pretty cities. Stay here if you want to build and exciting community.
