Thread: Are politicians in big trouble?

Our player city, Haven, has over 100 citizens. At 100xp per vote, we can pull in 10,000xp a week. HOWEVER, if political XP works like any other kind of xp, it will take way too long to move up the political tree. Why? Because there are caps on how much excess xp you can have at one time!

This means on day one, I can pull 10,000 xp, but I can only keep maybe 2000. 8000 xp lost

Can anyone confirm if this is how political xp works?

XP caps affect all professions. Yes it is annoying that we will lose XP, but why do you think it is "big trouble".

It has several adverse effects on the political AND on the city being governed. At best, even with 100 residents, it would take two monts to master the profession. With losing massive amounts of XP like this, you could easily be looking a four or more months. For larger player cities, that have been planning since before launch, this is a real let down. The other impact it has is, in order to be more effecient about xp collection, it "forces" politicians to plow through one tree so that the amount of xp lost is minimized, when in reality, I think many politicians will want to move up trees uniformly. Given the unique way that XP is accrued in SWG for politicians, I dont think that an xp cap is fair.

Someone else did a post it will take 9 weeks to master.

Week 1 I doubt you have 100 residents in your 150m radius, possible but I highly doubt it. Week 1 you get 2000 xp, spend it on 2 level 1 boxes. Week 2 you get 5000 XP, spend it on one level 2 box and whatever else you want. Week 3 you get 10000xp, after week 3 you should never have any wasted XP.

From the other post

Assuming unanimous voting and 100 people, it's 9 weeks to Master:

Week 1 (assume 20+ people) - 2000 XP (1/1/0/0, 0 XP remaining)

Week 2 (assume 50+ people) - 5000 XP (2/1/1/0, 1500 XP remaining)

Week 3 (assume 100 people) - 11500 XP (3/2/2/1, 500 XP remaining)

Week 4 (assume 100 people) - 10500 XP (3/2/2/3, 3000 XP remaining)

Week 5 (assume 100 people) - 13000 XP (3/3/3/3, 3000 XP remaining)

Week 6 (assume 100 people) - 13000 XP (4/3/3/3, 3000 XP remaining)

Week 7 (assume 100 people) - 13000 XP (4/4/3/3, 3000 XP remaining)

Week 8 (assume 100 people) - 13000 XP (4/4/4/3, 3000 XP remaining)

Week 9 (assume 100 people) - 13000 XP (4/4/4/4, 3000 XP remaining)

I do not think 9 weeks is unreasonable.

I am Fairly certain that if you have no Skill block above your highest tree, the CAP gets reset to the next highest.. which in your case would be CAP'ed at 2000. atleast thats how it worked when I was a skilled dancer.. I had one tree maxed and the XP Cap actually increase when I dropped the tier 4 box.

the Combat, Unarmed, General crafting XP appears to get an unlimited CAP because of the other professions that need them as prerequisists set the highest needed XP block.. thereby giving ungodly high XP caps for certain skills and others remain at a low level.

Feel free to test and prove me wrong but I believe this is the case, But please don't just say I am.... well unless you are a DEV.. hehe.

The problem is that all four trees experience the SAME amount of exp. This is what I noticed with Tailoring and Merchanting, which work similiar...

If I went up just one tree, I could not get the 4th tier box, because it would cap out under the required experience. However, once I got the other three tree's at least a 1st tier box, then I could complete that 4th tier. That may be a bit untrue, you may need to go up a couple of other tiers to 2nd, because I never just went up *one* line at a time, but I know that they all must at least be 1st.

Especially considering the a City is viable well before a Politician hits Master. Personally, I expect our city to see many Mayors during it's life time, and each one extends the time it will take for any one to Master. That's how the system is designed, and I think that it's pretty darned good. Capping the XP gained prevents Master Politicians having the unnatural edge over newcomers 3 weeks after the City Hall is placed. And without the cap, Mastering Politician wouldn't even need that long for some groups.

Has the cap size been stated? It's different for every profession...For medical it 30K xp...but for Commando (heavy weapons) it's 900K xp...so the question is...what is the cap?

Garvin,

As you go up the tree I believe it is always 2x the next skill box. So week 1 level 1 skill box is 1000xp so cap is 2000, week 2 cap would be 5000, week 3 cap would be 10000.

The cap you are talking about,I believe,is the cap after you have mastered something. We aren't worried about that.

An addition to my original post - which assumed a maximum of 100 votes - you can bust that cap in week 4 so mathematically it's possible to Master in week 4. In reality, week 6 is about the earliestreasonable mastery.

The path is slightly different that way:

Week 1 - 2000 XP (1/1/0/0, 0 XP)

Week 2 - 5000 XP (2/2/0/0, 0 XP)

Week 3 - 10000 XP (3/3/0/0, 0 XP)

Week 4 - Unlimited XP - Master here at 475 votes/week

Week 5 - Unlimited XP - Master here at 238 votes/week

Week 6 - Unlimited XP - Master here at 159 votes/week

Week 7 - Unlimited XP - Master here at 119 votes/week

Week 8 - Unlimited XP - Master here at 95 votes/week

I'm pretty sure a 475 houses city, to which you add the dozen of cantinas, the 100 or so factories, etc, would crash the server.

yeah thats a big pain, basically week 1, all good, 1/1/0/0, week2: 2/2/0/0 -as long as one is lvl 2, week3 3/(3 or less)/0/0, week 4: 3/4/2/2 and thats the stick spot you have to keep a skill at 3 there to maximize votes atherwise back down to el crappo cap at rank 2 skill same problem in all professions.
