Thread: REQUEST: CityChat Channel

I think it would be a great idea if we could have a CityChat Channel. On becoming a resident of a Player City, the resident would automatically get a new chat tab for CityChat, just the way new members of Guilds automatically get a new GuildChat tab.

There are a handful of admirablePlayer Cities that are really striving to become dynamic Player Cities as opposed to Guild Cities. A CityChat channel would assist these in achieving their goal.

Guild Cities already have a Chat Channel called GuildChat.

Why not just make a public channel and use that?

Because public channel's are automatically destroyed when the last person on it logs off. It is a real pain every time you log to reset up the channel, as a result, people tend not to do that.

As the mayor of a non-guild open city, I would love this.

How is it a real pain? Just make a macro for:

/chat create SWG.Servername.Chat.channelname 0 1 "This is our channel message."

Problem solved.

Or there could just be a city channel the same way guilds get channels.

Problem sloved.

Why would you be against this or play devils advocate? What do you hope to gain?

It's an alternative option offered, not an opposing viewpoint. I did not say 'CITYCHAT IS THE WORST IDEA EVER AND SHOULD NEVER BE IMPLEMENTED.' Instead, I offer a more realistic option, as something like this, if created, would probably take until the next publish to be implemented. Don't try to put words in my mouth.

My request is for a CityChat channel for Residents of a particular Player City. It would not be accessible by Non-residents, the same way GuildChat channels are not accessible to players not of that Guild.

Unfortunately, the only alternative right now is a Public channel created daily (or not) by someone (or maybe not) and that everyone can listen in on, even the neighboring city of a different faction. This is not a good alternative at all, imho.

So, Im requesting the devs to create a CityChat channel for residents of particular Player Cities.

I don't see how it is more realistic... it is a perfectly reasonable request. Guilds get them, why not cities? Guilds can mass mail their members, cities can mass mail their members. Guild are community efforts, cities are community efforts. Guilds can talk in a chatroom that the server created, cities cannot. A city isn't very much different from a guild - It just doesn't give you a tag. However everyone in the city is there, working together, and they all have at least one thing in common; they are all citizens. I know citizens of player cities not based on guilds would love the oppurtunity to chat since they are working together, and I know they would not want to do this every single time the server reset.

With the way guild chat is working lately are you sure you want them to do this?

lol j/k I would love it if there was a city chat channel!

As it is with a public channel you constanly have to boot people out of it since the private ones you have to make everyone a moderator just so they are able to send messages. Very much a hassle!

Seriously. I do want them to fix guildchat first before they add another half-assed chat system

JDaneel, you can add anyone you want to a GuildChat Channel, just invite them through the chat controls.

With all the problems with chat lately it would be far better to let them fix the broken things before looking into something extra. And the people who would use the channel would probably be willing to set up a macro that made/joined the chat every time they logged in.

Sorry, not in a Guild.

Also.. dont want to have to work at maintaining a list any more than Guilds do. They have it pretty easy. System takes care of the adding and subtracting for them.

I'd be happy for a CityChat channel that is equally as broken as the GuildChat. Then they can worry about fixing GuildChat later. :-)
