Are you honestly going to argue with him because he didn't know it was a proper noun? Don't be a grammar nazi, he was just trying to make a point.

You seem to have missed my point, which was that he was incorrect to call capitalism and communism political systems. They are economic systems. In other words, his points was erroneous.

I feel a duel of dictionaries brewing.

Does it really matter? He still makes a good point in explaining why the system is good the way it is.

Only if one is interested in being correct. YMMV.

Just because he didn't have his facts straight doesn't mean the general idea of the post was incorrect. The system how it is now is completely fine. It doesn't matter if communism is a political system or an economic system, that doesn't change the voting system in the game. I think you need to realize whats more important on these boards; discussing the game system, or discussing economic systems of the real world.

This statement is wrong on so many levels I don't even know where to start. If the "facts" supporting the premise of an argument are wrong, its conclusions will probably be wrong as well. Some people like to call this "fruit of a poisonout tree". It is very rare for false premises to lead to a true conclusion. For example:

All polar bears live in the Arctic.
Eskimo are polar bears
Therefore, Eskimo live in the Arctic.

False premise, but a true conclusion. However, this sort of thing is rather rare. False premises are something one should avoid. If you still have some credit hours left over, take an introductory course in logic. Spare me a thought when you are taking the final exam.

This just isn't worth it to me. You can go to finishing school if all of this is that important to you, I am just here to play a game and make it better.

That "rare occurance" did happen in this case. So what, he said political system instead of economic system, big deal. That is not the point of the post! We are playing a video game here, and he was giving his 2 cents on how to make it better by keeping things the way they are, and here you are knit picking for whatever reason, like its such a big deal he made a mistake that we should change the focus of the thread to discuss that.

Oh people, please!

Two things:

1. I'm English - please don't tell me how to use my own country's language! I was taught English in an Englishschool that is over 500 years old and had established the basic rules of the English language before America was even discovered. If you want to debate English, please set up a new thread and get some flame-proof material.

2. Separating political and economic systems shows just how out of touch with reality you are. Anyone knows that political and economic systems are linked - that is why Mayor's are allowed to raise taxes in this game - like they do in real life. If you believe that the economic and political systems of North America are separate, I'd love to see your arguments - please send me a private mail on it, because the irony alone would be entertaining.

3. How is someone meant to overthrow an incumbent mayor? It's simple, it's called campaigning... if the challenging mayor has something better to offer than the existing mayor, they go around and tell the citizens andencourage them to vote for them. Exactly what current issues do youbelieve would get you elected at the moment, the vagaries of the system aside.

IF the challenger has sufficiently compelling arguments, they willconvince the majority of people to votefor them and they will be comemayor. I failto see the difficulty in this system - campaigning is normal part of any democratic or semi-democratic system - and it will make the game FUN!

4. This game, unfortunately for some, has to reflect element of real life. Many of you are complaining because the system has denied you your objective. Well, rather than trying to change the system, how about having a little bit of fun and actually trying to win using the system, rather than changing it? You need to face facts. If, like me, you have invested huge resources, time and effort into building a successful player city, you are going to build in protections and there is going to be inertia. Once mayors start whacking up taxes, neglecting their duties and allowing themselves to corrupted by powerful forces, let's see how quickly Voter Apathy disappears.

Like they used to teach us at school - qui patitur vincit

Now instead of people reading and discussing the main point of your latest post, they will knit pick over the fact that you said 2 things and actually said 4. Oh well.

"As someone who has studied political science, you should at least know that communism and capitalism are economic systems, not political systems".

That's not in my opinion true. Politics are made around economics and use them to achieve their political goals. That's at the most basic level what taxes are about. You CAN'T dissociate politics and economics. Besides, go tell a russian communism wasn't a political system. (Well, that's socialism really but few people make the difference anyway).

I don't think voter apathy is a problem. Mayors wanting people to leave can always /warn them and have them shot by the militia anyway. With the new insurance thing, they should get the message.

I see that you persist in writing words and I ask myself, "Why?"
