Thread: City Militia = Deputy Mayors?

Haven't had time to read the forum much, so I don't know if this has already been brought up...

I originally thought the Militia was going to be a military type thing for the defence of the city, which is cool, I would have recruited in all the combatants in my guild to be a part of the militia.

The one hiccup to that is the grantzoningrights that is also given to the militia...shouldn't this be given to a different group of people...say the city council/clerks/officers or something? A second list for these 'empowered' people would be much better.

I trust my combatants to keep the city secure, I just don't trust them to keep the city beautiful They are combat jocks after all

As it stands, the Militia is now going to be restricted to a couple of people who are the 'city builders/planners', and none of them are really military people. Its a big misnomer (wrong name) to call theseofficers of the city 'Militia'.

Anyone else have thoughts about this?

I agree. As of right now, only the PA Leaders from the PAs in our town will be militia. One or two of the town council will be also. Maybe 2 or 3 are combat class, but I trust all of them with GrantZoningRights.

Sad thing is, all the folks who were going to be militia will not..... just because of GrantZoningRights.

Can anyone confirm that the militia currently gets the /grantZoningRights command? The advanced guide that came out recently doesn't mention that being given to the militia (I know some of the early builds on TC allowed this though).

It is likely we will have to wait until Thursday when people can start creating militias to see if they really have it or not.

I have to agree.. our current militia personal.. are great. I love them all.. but they did ask me where to put things and such.. I have an idea what I want and hope for future expansion.. (might have to use that nice space in the middle for houses until our city goes to level 2)

But I wouldn't want to give our militia the power of granting mainly they do not know what to do... most of them are combat that just love to shoot and kill things... and very good at it too.. they could careless about "structure placement" that is why they made me architect hehe..

most of them just want a nice small home (some don't want even a med or large) to store some of their stuff and be happy.

Why burden them with /GrantZoningRights. It is just asking for trouble It is hard enough getting them to place their own house in the right spot.

well, one thing that isn't a big deal is that zoning (I believe) doesn't prohibit people from building.. it only prohibits people from building commercial structures. So unless you think your militia is about to let their friend drop a cantina or theater in your city in a random location.. you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I kind of wish it allowed you to prohibit *all* building, but it appears not to be the case when you look at the description of 'grant zoning rights'.

the right allow to drop all buildings... without it.. no building can be drop

I have to give rights for them to plant houses (being the mayor right now)

but now I realize that I could have place it for them and just transfer them

I completely agree. We definitely need a way to deligate zoning rights to another person or group of people, but it should be seperate from the militia.

As it stands now, my "militia" will just be my council members like the title of the thread suggests. Thankfully we are a neutral crafting town and have little need for a real militia

Deputy Mayor will forever be a great idea. I brought this up like 3 weeks ago or so maybe only 2, but people liked it back then, and people still like it today!

I find pleasure in /citywarn on people randomly

Since there are no militia, they cant get attacked, and it just freaks them out when they get the system message. Yea, it does give them a 5min TEF so they cant enter homes, but its fun if you are just sitting outside screwing around.

The militia should not get the ability to grant zoning rights. There should be another group of people like the City Officers that get the ability to grant zoning rights from the mayor and the ability to be admins on the city hall (since i think they are going to 'fix' the bug that lets us admin people on the city hall right now). Since I'm mayor and no one can be on all the time, I just gave my account info to another guild member so he can grant zoning rights to people if they need them, just be easier if I could give him the ability to grant zoning rights for others. Likewise, basically our entire guild (minus those who didnt want to be) were going to be the militia for our town but now the militia is going to be like 10 people. Kinda sucks, we should get a "Create Militia" and "Create City Council" so that it breaks down like this...

Mayor : keep the same...read the politician skill tree
City Council : /grantzoningrights and admin on City Hall
Militia: /citywarn, /cityban, /citypardon
