These are from a couple PMs we sent back and forth:

I asked for clarification on the upcoming changes - the guide put up on Friday conflicts with the in game information and so we do not know what to expect.

- The guide was put up prematurely. A hotfix is going out soon with some changes to help fight griefing mayors:

- You can no longer set taxes on outposts. Any current outposts with taxes will have their taxes reset to 0.
- Cities now require 10 citizens to be valid. All other city rank population requirements have been raised by 5. Existing new cities will need 10 citizens instead of 5 to be valid.

That is mostly public information already, but it is not easy to find on the boards with the DevTracker being broke and no political correspondant.

Is there a politician xp cap? We are speculating that it is 2x the total of the first skill like most professions which would put it at 2000 xp or 20 votes. This would mean that many of us would end up wasting xp if we have over 20 citizens.

There are caps, but they are more like 20x. If you have more than 200 citizens you may hit the caps, but this won't be a problem for most mayors.

2. Does the militia get the /GrantZoningRights command? We know it used to on TC, but in the recent guide, it is not specificall mentioned among the commands that they get. It would be great to be able to delegate this command, but we don't necessarily want to give it to all our fighters who generally don't care about urban planning

Yes the militia gets the /grantZoningRights command

And I mentioned that we were all lost without Plinka bringing us invaluable updates.

- We are working to get Plinka back.

Thank you. It's good to have that info. Now I have a question. Is granting zoning rights supposed to be available for mayors right now? I can grant them, but half the time when I target the player who needs rights it gives me the message "you must be a mayor or member of the militia to grant zoning rights." Half the time it works. I am the mayor and our city has more than enough players to exist so I'm not sure why this is happening.

Most of the time I place structures and then transfer them to the person, but I have used the grant command a couple times without a problem. I heard someone say that you had to be outside and inside the city limits for it to work... not sure if that helps at all.

You can't do it in your city hall or within a few feet of it, or within a couple of meters form the outside border; that could be the problem. Try walking a little ways away.

Are you sure he isn't talking about the XP cap after you master the profession? I find it hard to believe that XP won't be capped lower at the beginning.

As far as grant zoning rights goes, I have noticed that you must be in the city limits to do it. When I have been out of the city it won't work. Also, I have had problems doing it inside structures.

I am not sure, but I specifically asked if it was 2x the xp requirement like normal skills and he said, no it is more like 20x.

Not much point in accumulating xp after you reach master

good lord no! giving the ability to grant zoning rights to the militia automatically is a BAD idea. the mayor shoudl reserve the ability to grant the ability to grant zoning rights to specific individuals. otherwise every fool with a gun who is good for the militia but bad for city planning will be letting peopel lay down crap all over. and the mayor can't remove it later! for the love of the game, PLEASE don't let them have that ability automatically. devs?

I have to agree on the militia and zoning rights.

Also, thanks for the replies. When I think about it, I believe each time I had a problem I was inside a house. If not I'll come back and bug everyone.

Its completely reasonable to assume a city could get all the level I skills this Thursday

Yes it is, but why would you want it?

I would go 2-1-1-0 the first week. Banks, register on map, militia, and mission terminals.

So the modifications in rank requirements are going ahead regardless of the opinion of those effected by them, and the disucssion in the development forum was little more than spilled pixels. I must admit I find this very frustrating. We won't be especially effected by it, but I feel it's a very, very poor way to handle such issues.
