Thread: Why I'm NOT making a city

Well I guess SOE planned this, so people like me wouldn't DO this.

But I now know that I won't be making a city. Why you ask? Basically because if I made a city I would like it to be for my guild. I'd be investing a lot of my personal assets into the city, including the original deed FOR the city.

Despite great personal effort and investmentone day I maybe removed from the Mayor status? Puh-lease. The only way I'm going to make a city is if I can be the leader until I choose to step down.

I see WHY SOE made cities, but I'm sure not happy with it. It really puts a damper on my plans. I'm just slowly becoming less satisfied with SWG

I really fail to see the reason for why every PA in the game has decided that they HAVE to have a PC. I can see it for very large PAs but for every group of 5 players to plant their flag all over the planet is kind of silly to me.

Unless 2 or 3 small to medium PAs get together, then it's not worth it. One of the interesting things that will shake out of this exercise is watching the few small PA's who will be able to cooperate succeed where the very large PAs who will use this as a powergrab fail.

If nothing else, it will be a very good study of what early civilization must have been like.

Well, according to the latest things I am hearing about zoning rights you COULD do just that. Your problem would be either your guild turning on you and voting you out, or expanding into new citizens who then might vote you out.

I'm personally very appreciative of the way they set it up. Too many times in UO or other games you'll see large areas of ground taken up by buildings, which when the major landholders get "bored" they disapear and the land rots and stagnates. In this situation it could result in shuttleports and cloning centers evaporating, new people unable to move in, and basically a 900 meter lockout on the map.

Being able to vote gives the citizens the ability to make sure their town doesnt fall into disrepair and that they are not "terrorized" by a mayor with a god complex. I dont think any player should EVER "own" 900 meters of the map. Sorry that you think you should be able to

Player cities should be more than just a PA getting together to stake a claim on 900m of land...Cities are larger than that...it would be as if a PA said ok no more PAs in Kor Vella we claim it for <Loser> PA...

Sorry you see it that way, but I am glad a person that thinks like you do isn't building a city. This game is for the enjoyment of many, not the enjoyment of one. If you want a city you control for a long time with no risk go play sim city.

The point of player cities is to add in politics, not just new strucutures. They very easily could have given us these new structures with no mayor and no taxes. Make people around them support them like you do pa halls very informal. With adding in mayors they added a new profession that they see will add new game play. What is the point of the city without elections, without the chance to lose. That doesn't sound very fun to me. A city hall isn't that big of a deal, if you can't afford to lose one you shouldn't be building a city. Imagine how many city halls will be crit failed and all those resources down the drain, makes me shudder.

i gotta say, cya.

Really the only money that gets spent on these from the Mayor's perspective is the cost of the City Hall. kinda pricey but not huge. put together a good city, get some merchants interested, find a spot with some value other than just in th emiddle of nowhere that has some appeal and run the city well. You won't have to worry about a power play, especially since it takes 77 sp to be a master politician. There were no other volunteers to be mayor in our PA, I want it and plan to work to make it a great place to make a home. It is my intention to lure marketable merchants to make a home in our city. When they do and they declare residence, the size of the town will increase. This will indeed be a study in early civilization.

Why join a city???? Becuase it is close to a lot of really good merchants. Sound familiar? Oh wait, that's the reason the world is quickly urbanizing.

Sorry, even I can't argue for allowing someone to lock themselves in as Mayor. We want a private community, but I can still get voted out at any time in favor of anyone else who wants to be Mayor . . . .

Ok just to clarify because apparently some people didn't read my message carefully.

1. I understand WHY SOE planned cities out thisway, so people like me WOULDN'T have tiny cities all over.

2. I wish there was a wayI COULD have a city, it doesn't have to take up 900 meters of space though that's for sure.

3. Something I didn't make clear. I did not want it to be for my GUILD only. I meant my guild, any guilds that we ally with, and any personal friends I have, guilded or not.

IF anything I'd like to live in a city with multiple guilds run by a council. Instead of having one mayor have all the people who lead guilds in the city be a member on the council. Or something like that.

I'm just saying I think it's lame that someone who plans on fronting a lot of money and time to start a city can lose it all. And there should be a different and or better way to run cities. Or multiple ways to run any city.

Dude,

It's called DEMOCRACY - in civilised countries this is how it work! LOL

If you are not confident that you can be a good enough Mayor to keep people on your side, then you are not really a good candidate for Politician, are you?

Well, My PA is only 20 members and we are going to start a city. We talked with a few larger guilds about joining their city, but most of them were do it OUR way or dont do it at all- they did not want us to have ANY say in what things were going to take place in the town because we were the "minority" and they were "letting" us join their town. So we have decided to make our own outpost. It will be open to anyone and any PA that wants to move in to the area. AND whoever moves in and joins will have the opportunity to be on the town council to direct the growth and direction the town takes. If you are on LOWCA and want to live in a nice town on Tatooine send jaysun a /tell.

You can actually do that. If you can get 50 people together in multiple PAs that you trust then you can in fact pretty much have your own private Idaho
