Thread: Ok this is BS that the hotfix is going to give 24hrs to get our outpost to 10....
Well like he said some people do not play everyday which means their reading on the forums is probably even more limited. Personally I never have any clue where to find patch notes, they randomly seem to appear on forums and what not. I don't have time to look in every forum to see what is new and what not. Anyway, I too just found out about this update. Our city has 7 people and we are now going to go on a mad dash to find three more so we can keep it.
Oh well, my tiny guild cannot compete against the huge guilds that want cities I guess.
I think this is a problem if poor research, actually. The devs stated goal all along - and there are countless threads dating back over a month - was to require guilds to work together in creating cities - hence making it prohibitively expensive for smaller groups to own their own outpost.
I understand people have busy lives, but once the city hall is dropped, the mayor receives all this information - including where to look in the holocron. There's a lot there, but I took the time to read it, and I'm a full time law student with a job ![]()
Just plan a little more in advance?
Ideas for your situation though:
1. plop down all the existing houses you'll need - have mayor suspend zoning rights, and just get the buildings there, and drop like 5k maintenance in each (roughly 20 days worth). Once you find tenants, the holder of the physical house can turn it over using the /transferstructure command by targetting the person moving in. Both players have to be next to the control panel in the house for this to work. Once the houses are up, you can turn zoning rights back on and not have to worry about it.
2. you'd be surprised how many people are willing to move into pre-paid houses to help out people with cities because either a) they're looking for a city themselves, and don't have/want to join a guild to join a city, or b) they have the lots to spare for a small house and are willing to count towards your citizen total so long as it's not too big an inconvenience to them.
3. Similar to #2, a lot of people are willing to join your city on your server provided you create a char to join their city on their server. Of course the understanding is that the city would pay for any and all taxes for the mule... I'd be more than happy to create a char on Flurry and move into a house in your city if you paid for it. That way, sure you have to pay the maint of the house, and for the house - but you dont have strangers mucking up your community (I'm assuming youve got a closeknit group that doesnt neccessarily want a ton of strangers moving in also), but you still get closer to your cap.
4. Try additional promotions. I'm a mayor/ch - so I staged a mount giveaway a few days back - only got like 5 people to move in - but then that's a quarter of the cap in one day.
Hope this helps,
Sajan
The honest truth is people that should have cities are people that actually care enough to read about cities and understand everything possible about them to make a good city. Espeically since there is a cap right now on the amount of cities allowed and there are a lot of other cities that are actually prepared to make a great city that deserve a city hall then people that don't prepare enough to keep theirs.

Ok for all you people saying that its my fault not reading up or researchingthe rules, you are stupid. I DID read the manual on this website. IT clearly says, and still does,5 people within 24hrs or destroyed. Now you say we've been updated by TH, well lets see hmmmm.....TH was not showing up on the dev tracker so I didn't even look at it. Sorry I dont have the time like all you powergamers out there that can read the forums and search through every single thread while finding a way to play 12 hrs a day.
What if they announced today that in 5 days any player structure on Dantooine will be destroyed if not removed by patch time. Hmmmm, seeing that not every player reads these formus you dope heads, I can see a lot of people quiting over this. Same goes for this, 400k hall vanishing because they are informed only the day of the patch when they log in and read the notes. Over the past 4 months almost everyone I've meet doesn't even know what the forums are so saying its there fault for not looking, your being ignorant.
Lets see 300,000 subscribers, I bet 80% don't even look let alone know aboutthe forums. How fair is that?
Lashing out at readers of this forum and calling them 'stupid' is not the way to garner support or sympathy. Let's not get into a "what is fair" argument, it's pointless.
But it's been said time and time again that cities are not meant to be the domain of a single guild.
Player-cities are a new game system and are going to be tweaked constantly over the next few months; guaranteed.
You said it yourself that you only have 7 people, and none of you really play on a daily basis. Is that enough to maintain a city? Even before they increased the minimum from 5 to 10 I would say 'no'.
Ok I apologize for the 'stupid' comment, it was a bad choice of words.
But all I've been hearing so far is its my fault for not doing the proper research when I did, I read the manual on this web site and the patch notes last week. They change the rules 1 week after it goes live, very considerate of the devs. I know people are upset they didn't get there cities in before the cap but giving no refund for a hall when we followed the rules as stated, how is that fair.
Personally, I play everyday and just want a place that I can run missions from, my friends are the ones who have grand ideas of what the city will become with future recruits. I don't look at the forums much because I would rather play than look through endless threads, so saying that I have to look at the forums everyday to be informed of changes like this doesn't make sense to me.
And all this talk about maintaining a city with little citizenship is hiliarious. I can do 23k missions, postpatch, within 6 mins by myself with pets. I forked over the 400k for the hall and I am paying the weekly charge of 40k per week. So I can support a city finanically indefinetly unless the missions get nerfed down again in the next patch. So can 5 to 10 people suport a city,I would say 'yes'.
Right now it'spretty hard forthose who read the forums everydayto keep up with all the changes going on, let alone someone who only casually reads them.
But running missions for credits alone will not maintain a city. You need dedicated and motivated people. You need a mayor to run things and residents to empower and support the mayor. People also need to see the benefit of being in a city. Is the location the primary motivator for forming a city? IE. a nearby POI, themepark or dungeon? For RP purposes? Are you going to have a bank, cloning facility, and shuttle port? You're going to need a larger population for that. A rank 1 outpost with only 10 people just can't do that.
If all you want is a place to run missions from you may want to look into buying a small faction base with a mission terminal and placing that. Less hassle. Drop the base, put up some mine fields, turrets and some houses. Done.
Or, look into joining another player city with more residents so you don't have to be as involved.
