Thread: Commando/BH/Smuggler speed questions on Pistoleer Board
Hello again all:
Ihave been submitting a few replys latley to speed issues with the pistoleer profession. Heres my beef. I belive and correct me if im wrong Master Pistoleer get +74 to pistol speed. And if i read Jaegen88's faq post correctly (great post btw) having 100+ speed will give 1 sec mod delays on all specials. It seems Bh through 4 teirs get +50 to pistol speed (which is redicilous, but ill save that for another post)and through 4 tiers of Pistoleer we get +49. So when all is said and done Bh's get +80 to speed and we get +74, it sounds like im crying about this, but we dont get the eye shot or the flame shot which are killer moves and cause mass amounts of damage. Im not so concerned with the damage as i am with the speed. As i was looking through the dirrfent profession i found BH was the only one with anything +speed pistols. And since i ruffuse to be a boba fett junkie and run aroundthinking i own star wars galaxies that was out of the question.
Now im a Master Smuggler/Pistoleer, a great combo in my opinion although theres no speed mods on smuggler for pistols. Even though u need pistol exp for 2 tiers. Off hand i cant think of another place when i need to gain pistol experincew/o any reward to actual pistol stats. I like and often use the specials from smuggler, but againspeed is the issue.
I also looked under the commando profession. And i am just as opposed to giving the commandos anything else to benifit them, but since i already have the unarmed exp for smuggler all i would need is the master marksman to get to commando. But with commando there is no +speed mods. As a mater of fact the only thing i see for any +pistol skills is the cert. for a launcher pistol. Again a pistol tree with no +speed or anything for that matter.
I have said this before and i'll say it again, as pistoleers our ally is speed. We get no great benifits from our weapons as far as damage, and yes ourspecials more than make up for it. But speed it key. I dont care that some one had to sit in a camp site for 3 hours every night to get scouthing experince to become a Bh. Bottom line pistoleers need more speed than any other professions. I also understand that the devs dont want to put extra speed in say smuggler because then everyone would be a smuggler/pistoleer foran optimal character. That would flood the servers. No i think the speed needs to be tweaked, and ijust say tweaked on the pistoleer profession alone. It need to be the fastest professsion
and make Riflemen not reach 90% but only 60ish and leave the speed cap as it is right now.
They won't because BH will find it a nerf. And dabblers would crying to nerf too. None of them seem to realise there is no other solution for the game to be balanced thus enjoyable.
Sad but true.
Should just add +30 speed bonus at MASTER pistoleer, i dont care about eyeshot let BH have there toys.. But if im going to be hiting Random pools they better let me approach the new proposed .5 speed barrier doing so
1 - Pistoleers have to fill their entire tree to get their +49 speed. 20 of that comes at master. So take the speed line only from Pistoleer and you get only +29 speed (+5 at novice). If you go BH you can get +50 speed from just 4 skill squares. Does +50 speed make a master BH overpowered? No. Does +50 speed that easily make a dabbler overpowered? Yes. A possible fix - Give BH +20 speed at master and spread the remaining 30 points out between their Pistol line AND their investigation line.
2 - Speed skills are broken in general, making the addition of 10 more speed when youre skill is at 10 have a minimal effect, but if your speed skill is 70 or 80, then 10 more speed has a HUGE effect. This is from putting a linearly decreasing to zero value in the denominator of an equation, resulting in an exponential increase in damage output. Translation - The devs messed up. It's a design flaw. Possible solutions: Put in a speed cap or fix the speed equation.
A possible solution to both problems:
At different skill levels give an absolute "firing rate" ABILITY. At novice Marskman you have "Pistol firing rate 1" (for example - could be tweaked a bit either way), meaning that you fire at the speed rating of your weapon. As you go up the tree you get different firing rates. This means that if you get "Pistol firing rate .6" from the Pistoleer tree and from the BH tree, they do NOT stack - whatever your best Firing Rate ability is, is what is used. No stacking, very controlled maximum (probably .3 would be as low as you'd want to go to avoid getting too far onto the exponential portion of the curve), *AND* - a nice bonus for our Smuggler friends, it means they could add speed increases to the Smuggler Dirty Trick line without creating another dabbler nightmare.

Your failing to takeinto account the +30 speed points Bh's get from Master Marksmsn. Does +50 make them over powered? No. But Does 80? Hell yes it does. And on top of it all, inorder to get my +6 speed per lvl, i need to gain combat experince which is dreadfuly slow. They need to gain Pistol experince. Translation,HardcoreBH playersare able to achive pistol 4 in a week, maybe 2? Hardcore Pistoleers get enough combat experince 2months? maybe?
