I can not get this thing to work reliably. What I'm noticing is that I will shoot one target and the damage will register, but then the combat chat says I hit other mobs but they take no damage. I have not been able to get this thing to work right (or as described) once.

Is there some sort of trick that I'm missing?

for me:

1) find pack attck mobs

2) sick pets on one

3) get in position so the mobs are in the narrowest area

4) fire fan shot

Fan shot only seems to work if mobs are attacking... there is also a "radius" of damage on the cone

All AE cone attacks have the 'feature' that they do not do damage to any targets not in combat (with the icon in the targetting window). Any status effects are still applied normally. So in order to do damage with a cone attack, you need to make sure the targets are in combat, first. If the mobs BAF, you can hit one with a regular shot to aggro its friends, then use the cone attacks. If the mobs don't BAF, it's trickier to use cone attacks consistently.

right, that is why i do pack style mobs, so that they all agro on my pet when he attacks.
