Thread: Armor rating still broken? re: DX2 etc.

I did a few tests last night for fun and to verify a few things for myself.

Just to confirm my own conclusions, are the armor rating vs. armor piercing formulas broken? I did read somewhere quite some time ago that they were.

Using DX2 with the Light armor piercing I attacked some mobs with no armor. Am I correct in (I'm sure I read this somewhere) that there should be a bonus due to the gun being 1 rating above the armor?

However my test didn't reflect this as the damage shown above the mobs head when hit was exactly the same as stated in the combat window.

I then went to check a couple of things out on an AR light mob, in this case a Spineflap Queen. Ok using the DX2 both ratings are equal so I would just expect the same damage done to it as displayed in the combat window (minus anyresistances, but in this case it has no resistances to acid damage). This proved to be ok. However when I switched to FWG with no armor piercing I expected to see that my damage was reduced, but was surprised to see that damage wasn't reduced.

Still will be nice when it gets fixed.

Yeah it's all borked. I've been fighting Seething Bol Crushers on Dantooine for days, they're medium armor and vulnerable to heat, so I've been using my FWG5. Silly that my non-armor piercing weapon does full damage to them.

For the teacher's pets in the crowd. Yes I've bugged it, both in the general "armor is borked" and inthe specific "seething bol crushers don't seem to be getting any benefit from their medium armor".

On the other hand CH pet armor is working perfectly. There's a definite difference in damage taken with my light armored pets, vs. my unarmored pets. So they seem to know how to make it work in some cases.

I thought that's how vulnerability was supposed to work...? That if you hit that vulnerable damage type, it bypasses armor (not to mention that if it's vulnerable to it, it has no %'s to it). Am I wrong?

actually it is better the way it is now.

right now dx2 does full damage to any armor type. no bonus if they have no armor.

the way it is supposed to work is 50% reduction in damage for every level armor above your AP

so dx2 vs heavy SHOULD be dx2damage*.5*.5

dx2 vs mediume SHOULD be dx2damage*.5

dx2 vs light SHOULD be dx2damage

dx2 vs no armor should be dx2damage*1.25

In essence I can get a good fwg or scout to take out non armored opponents, and the way it is bugged now I can do full damage vs a kryate dragon instead of 25% damage *shrug*

The way it is supposed to be will help out riflemen more in the end because dx2 wont work too well on heavy armor and atm it is just as good as med or heavy AP stuff

I tested it also and let me tell you AP1+ vs AR0 is broken for ALL weapons, not only DX2.

On the Riflemen boards, someone explained the very probable source of this bug : Vulnerability. Yes, it is much better to fire with an nergy AP1 weapon (SR Combat for Pistoleers) than a DX2 if the mob gets 10% resist Energy and Vulnerability of 0 in Acid. Yes, you read it well : Being VULNERABLE is better than to be RESISTANT, if resist is under 25%.

A dev stated once how it is supposed to work : you can't do more dmg than

RAW DMG + RAW DMG * Vulnerability

So if vulnerability is 0, you can't get any AP bonus here. The problem is mobs that are AR0 with vulnerability fixed at "-" (most of mobs that are resistant somewhere are vulnerable for this amount "-" elsewhere), the AP doesn't work.

So if you're resistant for less than 25% (dmg bonus per AP lvl) it is better to use a gun with this type of dmg.

Sad but true.

Yeah, the only problem with that one dev statement is that it doesn't describe what happens in the game most of the time, and it also contradicts theadvanced guide to armorpublished on the website.

Also, AP2 weapons seem to work as described (getting a bonus vs vulnerable).

So I don't know if it's a bug with all AP1 weapons, or just some of them. But it's definitely a bug.
