Pistoleer Archive
Thread: Ok, what would suit me?
I am currently working towards CH 3|3|1|3, (Already got the nexttwo)Medic 0|0|2|2, Artisan 4|3|3|0.
Wondering what pistol skills I should pick up first (Have had novice for a long time). I did the math, I can master pistol and be left with 2 skill points, or I could do it the other way with CH.
I'm more inclined with going master pistoleer. What's some good ideas for this? Such as: what tree should I level up fast? What types of weapons should I use? and (most importantly) what should I hunt, where can I find these creatures?
Thanks for any and all info,
Well, ya of course I read the FAQ, that's the smart thing to do.
But, I asked this in order to get feedback from people who chose similar routes, and to see how things have turned out for them.
Thanks though.
I was originally planning on doing master CH/master Pistoleer as well Punkrocker, but after doing alot of research and playing in game I've decided on this:
Master CH
0 4 0 4 Pistoleer (Speed and Accuracy)
0 0 4 0 Smuggler (Last Ditch and ranged knockdown)
Various other points in medic/marksmen (Warning shot is invaluable)
Points are fairyl spread around but it's already a fun template and it fits my play style. The funny thing is I was so worried about facing BH's with eyeshot, but just today I wiped the floor with two of them as them attempted to spam eyeshot all fight. Good luck with your decision.
punk rocker you sure as heck better be a rodian or your not punk rock at all, haha jsut kidding, but its the only way to go, Rodian's + specials=left over action bar for more specials hehe
ok good job on those BH's by the way Deftech
the best tree in pistoleer is easily the stances tree because of the speed mods. progression in this tree is based on combat xp so its a no brainer. regarding the other three trees , opinions are mixed over pistol marksmenship (accuracy) and pistol techniques (special moves). since you are a pretty advanced ch i assume you have powerfull pets that will tank creatures which will allow you to get up close to your enemy which means accuracy might not be such a high priority. the third skill tree ( dont even remember its name its so crap) is just a necessary obsticle that will have to be overcome in order to become master pistoleer.
regarding what weapon to use , the undisputed pve weapon for pistoleers is the fwg5 but you will definately need a scoutblaster and a dx2 because different mobs have different resists.
it should be pretty easy for you to take on most high level creatures if you have a powerfull pet doing all the tanking. keep a large supply of stims on hand to heal your pets in order to avoid downtime. try to avoid creatures that hunt in packs since it will be much easier to take creatures one at a time. ( i have found the best time/ xp return has been when i have gone to the squill caves near bestine with groups of 5 to 10 peeps, 150k of pistol xp in a hour and a half.

I would dispute that quite strongly. Theniceunsliced FWGs on my server are upwards of 53-202/2.0 (63 DPS) while the common Scouts are 71-140/1.6 (66 DPS), which are also cheaper. The only reason I've used an FWG lately is to place a bleed. Then its back the Scout Blaster or DX2 if armored.
I don't get the 0022 medic. 2020 maybe, but really I'd probably save points and go 2000 or 2030, not that in-between one. Not sure what 2 crafting is for, nor 2 medicine use. Your time would be better spent buying stims from doctors.
First, never train a skill box until you are near cap for that XP. What you want to do when XPing is go up one tree to the top so you can raise your XP cap to it's highest value. Then continue getting XP/training, but only train when you near your XP cap, and spend as much of your XP as possible (Buy multiple boxes). This way you spend more times at camps/mobs you know well, and dont have to keep moving because your XP per mob drops every time you train. At least that's what I recall from months ago when leveling pistoleer ![]()
As to master pistoleer vs master CH, up to you. I know 33xx is pretty solid for CH already, and I know hitting master pistoleerhas thebig speed boost, and maybe onen day when hell freezes over, it will also have 2 really good special attacks, MTPS (we think will be a nice AOE attack), and disarming 2 (we think will be a nice AOE intimidate or something). of course, we pistoleers are partial to pistols. Betting on pistoleer getting a good AOE attack, I'd go that route. Too bad you can't get supression fire from marksman, using that to halt someone to give your pet time to pounce is pretty fun.
No idea on XP spots buddy, when I XP'd knockdown worked in it's glorious low-cost HAM, non-immune way, and I could solo everything and anything...bummer
then we had slow mobs to boot, like langlatch and kimas...
As to which lines first, it doesn't matter much IMO. I'd probably go up the fan shot line just so I could get the best random HAM special in case I wanted to PvP, and the defense mods (even though they dont do much). Disarming Shot 1 lets you take down lairs really fast so it's also useful early on. BS2 will be your best PvE attack probably until around mastery. Stack your health shot 1 and health shot 2 attacks on tough mobs and make sure you reapply if you need a higher bleed value using say...and FWG5 which has a high max damage. On lairs using disarming shot 1.
FWG5, scout, DX2 you'll want to have those 3 handy and examine the mob to pick the best weapon before attacking. With pets, you are unstoppable. even so, I'd start prone on mobs so they dont attack right away, only use the pet if they BAF or if they aren't dying before they reach you to save heals on the pet. Scout when possible is usually the best since it has the lowest HAM cost, FWG5 is good for applying bleeds, and then of course once you fight high con mobs, you will choose weapon based only on their vulnerability.
I never used armor in PvE, with CH you wont need to either. Make sure you have pets grouped with you for the XP bonus.
Ok, thanks for the info.
Lots of great tips in there. True about the medic thing, probably should drop the crafting (only have it to make my own stims). What is the medic tree that you gain more use out of stims - first aid, diagnostics, or pharmacy?
Thanks guys.
First Aid will give you bonuses to healing, Diagnostics effects speed, and Pharmacology gives pluses to med use. Honestly, if all you want out of medic is to use stim-bs exclusively and nothing else, there's really noreason towaste points onPharmacology. You get all the med use you need (5) at novice Medic. If your only reason for having medic is to use stim-bs, put some points into First Aid and be done with it.
