If you are going to do pistoleer, definitly stances and grips. Stoppingshot owns when you are hunting and fanshot does 200+ damage per hit in PvP. I'd say tactics is the very last pistol line you'd want to get.

Tactics:
Pont Blank Single : really good random HAM damage, but ideally for PvE, not very useful in PvP

Point Blank Area2: Could be good, but currently attacks only one target, otherwise, mostly PvE or attacking multiple pets, otherwise, not so useful for PvP

Dodge: currently doesnt work, but maybe one day it WILL be good

Body Shot 3: Body Shot2 is actually a better attack, go figure.

Stance/Grips:
Defenses vs state effects: These don't do much if anything, maybe soon they willl, similar to why dodge is useless.

Dismaring shot 1 : This special COULD get interesting with a patch. Right now, it does superb damage vs monster lairs (dont laugh at us).

Double tap: Good overall ranged RANDOM attack, good for PvP if you arent using body shot 2 (or good to mix it up)

Stopping Shot: neat, but double tap is better

Fan shot: Better than double tap, you replace double tap with this once you get it. Very good for PvP, ok for PvE.

Stances/grips has fairly useful specials for both PvE and PvP, tactics currently does not. So today, the clear choice is stances/grips. Plus, if disarming shot 1 becomes more useful, you get an added bonus!

Exactly! Yet Stances/Grips needs works too (defenses broken) and stoppingshot/fanshot should get Stat effects or no random target pool...

As usual Jaegen's post is great ... but two questions for him:

1) Why is Double Tap/Fan Shot so great for PvP? Just it will occasionally hit mind? Usually hitting random HAM bars is not the way to go. It's been a while since I've used BodyShot2 but I imagine that it's better than Double Tap.

2) Similarly, why is Fan shot so great for PvP? Maybe it does enough damage that it beats BodyShot2 because most "random" HAM shots hit Health, but that's hardly "very good." It's just somewhat better.

Also I want to point out that Stopping Shot becomes the best Pistoleer special once you get very high speed modifiers.

hmmm Fanshot still better overall I think Jaegens tested it too. But Fanshot in PVP is great, it has the higest attack and even random if you ahev a speedy weapon and modifiers their bar will go down quick. I equip my DX2 and do this, I for some reason always get their action bar depleted (makes sense actually sicne they are using it a lot while fighting) and it works well so far with my DX2 and using this tactic I am 4-0 duels and factional PVP, that is if its basically just me and him/her, so I try not to count the "assists" by fellow imperials. However if fan get stheir health down by half body shot 2 is great to finish that off.

Philosopher,

It'sVERY good compared to point blank single, point blank area, and overcharge shot as a random HAM attack.

Also, in PvP, I found that I often had better luck with high damage random HAM than just health shots, first because they do more per hit (which can suprise someone when they lose healt/action/mind faster than expected), and it DOES hit mind and action, which in some cases, is necessary to beat your opponent faster. In some cases, body shot 2 peppering someone will not be able to drop your opponent.

For all those reasons, considering what pistoleers have, and considering this person is going the full line of EITHER tactics or stances/grips, and certainly won't have +100 speed, I think fan shot is worth getting....right now anyway. Body shot 2 is certainly a nice fall back, but fan shot is MUCH better than the other random HAM choices you get without taking the stances/grips line.

Sure, eyeshot >>>> fan shot, but he doesn't have that option.

hello, i started playing swg as a pure crafter going for master architect.

i picked up pistol specialist to defend myself while i check on my harvestors. i went up to novice pistoleer, advanced pistol marksmanship, and intermediate pistol special abilities.

the higher i go up on the pistoleer tree, i find that it's a rewarding skill to have. better than trying to sell homes at a 1unit per 2credit and deal with critical failures.

anyhow, my question is, i have 47 points left [after i dropped a few architect skills] for pistoleer and i would appreciate any advice on which skill to focus on.

so far, this is what i'm thinking about:

novice pistoleer 6 pt

intermediate pistol marksmanship 5 pt, advanced pistol marksmanship 4 pt, expert pistol marksmanship 3 pt, master pistol marksmanship 2 pt

intermediate pistol special abilities 5 pt, advanced pistol special abilities 4 pt, expert pistol special abilities 3 pt

that leaves me with 15 points remaining to go up to master pistol tactics or master pistol stances and grips.the decision that i have to make is between those 2 boxes.

If you really want to go Pistoleer, get Stances and Grips.

You'd be better off getting the Smuggler: Dirty Fighting line, since you don't have enough skill points for Bounty Hunter Pistol. The Smuggler special attacks are way better than ours.
