Thread: Help a Confused Pistoleer
Hello! I'm 2/2/2/0 on my pistoleer tree, and the only attacks I ever use are healthshot2 and bodyshot2. I took double-tap skill for a while, it seemed no better than BS2, so I lost it to work towards BS3. Now I've begun reading the forums and I fear I'm in for some disappointment.
I have two questions:
1) I only fight creatures at the moment, no people. What attacks should I be using, or is my HS2/BS2 the way to go? I've read these threads about the relative merits of different attacks, but with all the changes being proposed, I've only managed to get lost. What attacks are the best *right now*?
2) When will the next set of changes be made?

I understand why you're confused. Right now all the descriptions are screwed up, and these numbers are confusing.
I just answered the same question on another thread, so I'll refer you to that one:

Basically you're doing the right thing. ![]()
Note that my perspective is not representative of the community as a whole.
I would say that a Pistoleer has BS2, Health Shot 1 and Health Shot 2 (stack them to increase the bleed damage), and Pistol Melee Defense 1 as their main tools. The random HAM Techniques tree has nothing to offer PvE because you can kill the non-healing monsters and faction NPCs far, far faster with BS2 than any one of them. And BS3 is unfortunately saddled with a high enough delay that it will be worse over time than BS2. When it comes time to damage lairs, a spam of KipUpShot is your best friend and will tear it down in no time (faster than FanShot).
Using that perspective, the best trees to climb appear to be Marksmanship, for accuracy, and Grips, for speed. If your intention is to be a Master Pistoleer, I would go up speed and accuracy first, then the other trees for completeness.
On a more positive note, due to an aggressive bit of compaigning by Jaegen and the rest of the Pistoleers, it seems our designer has taken note of our issues and a fix may be incoming. Some of the fixes sound quite positive, so there may be hope yet. No ETA, of course, but encouraging nonetheless. Regardless, I'm sticking with my recommendation until further notice because it will net you the most damage possible, because you will be hitting faster and hitting your target more often.
Zerona, Philosopher, thank you both. Your answers were directly to the question I asked and exactly what I needed to know.
