Thread: Pistoleer + Teras Kasi defense bonus ?
Here's a bump 4 joo...
as I am interested in this as well. I have a friend I am trying to convince to play, and I am thinking that master pistoleer + a good heap of TKA with some dabbling in smug/med/scout should be a viable template.
Won't work.
TKA defense bonus are only activated when you use a VK weapon.
Unarmed Toughness only counts for combat against melee while using unarmed.
Example: I go from being hit for around 300 from a GBN with my pistol equipped to 100ish while using unarmed. PvP hardly matter from Toughness since no one uses melee much anyway. ![]()
But the extra defense and resists are nice.
Cheers.

well ya unarmed toughness is obvious
from his statement it sounded like dodge (not that it works) resists ranged/melee defense dont mix at all, but I've never heard a dev state that and that would be alot of extra coding (and bugs to go w/ it)
so if i was a 0040 BH and a master pistoleer, when I equip a scatter I lose all of my defenses?
I'm a mTKA working on pistol and all of my defence mods stack except anything that is "unarmed only" (like unarmed toughness which has been mentioned, i need to unequip the gun).
I am 0334 pistol so i don't have the pistol KD defence yet, but i'm really hoping to see some difference when i get this. My biggest doubt is that defence mods are working properly at all. The devs have posted something to the effect that they do or will work so I'm gonna hang onto this combo for a bit to see how it works out. Otherwise, the mods stack in the mod listing so i'm assuming they stack practically as well.
Aurilius.Starsider.mTKA.Pistoleer (Ex-mCH but couldn't live with myself)
Sorry, sorta lost touch....
Far as I know Melee/ranged defense is melee/ranged defense. Besides they can't be different because some of the starting professions have Melee/ranged defense mods in them and you get more in the Elites. NPCs/PCs don't tend to hit me much unless they are BHs(some pretty crazy accuracy mods) or Masters of their given combat profession.
And the mods are all compiled in the "Skill Mods" area, so I don't see why not. Defense vs. State Changes and Knockdown/Posture Changes stack also(Again, as far as I know).
But your guess is as good as mine as to what +50 melee defense actually means.
Sorry, another thing. I don't recall checking to see if there is a dodge mod somewhere in a Starting profession or if every person has the ability to dodge.... but I've dodge plenty while fighting unarmed.
Thought I'd add that for anyone curious.
