Thread: is it true that pistoleers do more damage the closer they are to a target?

i've heard a thing or 2 in some random posts about more damage being done closer in. im not sure if they're referring to the fact that you're more accurate in close, and hence will do more "damage per time period" or if you actually get a modifier.

does anyone have any input on this? if so, does this apply to the other classes too?

thanks

No more raw damage.

Accuracy is better, so hits are more often.

Also, the pistolwhip, and point-blank shot skills become available. They don't really do any more damage than other advanced shots though.

not to hijack my own thread haha , but:

i've heard that point blank single does more damage per second than most of the other specials. ie: it has a good multiplier and low delay that you can easily cap (1 shot per second) whereas the other specials have delays of like 4x and kinda crappy multipliers. unless you're a BH of course, then you cap any special.

just one more reason the speed for pistoleer shouldn't be so top heavy. +5 on bottom, paltry +6 per combat box (which take forever each) and then a huge +20 at master (which takes forever + 1 day). didn't one of the devs, maybe holo, say that they were thinking of reworking this in the next big patch so its a bit more even? i can't wait.

If you use the specials they can but the amount of delay after pulling the shot off has made me not use them. There was another thread, in 'SWG Discussion' I believe, that said that the amount of damage done by a pistoleer beyond 32m should be reduced. Since in real life, the effectiveness of pistols decrease over a certain distance.

Those are not my words or opinion; it's the thread's originator.

However, I am inclined to agree with him. I tend not to use pistols past 32m anyways, unless some aggro mob has decided to attack me.

Anything over 32 meters and we miss like crazy as it is, it is reduced because we can't hit for crap at long range. I've spammed 3 or 4 bleeds before and missed them all at 60 meters. Rifleman do not have this problem. Really unless you play the class one shouldn't make assumptions.

IRL, people are using chemically accelerated slugs.

SWG, we're (mostly) using packets of super-heated energy focused into a blast of light. Gravity/Friction won't affect light

unless of course, we're talking black holes...

PointBlankSingle isn't incredibly useful, in my opinion.

First of all, it's random HAM which means that it takes you longer to hit a single pool.

Second, it has a short range so if you or the mob ever moves outside of that range you'll get a "out of range" message and you'll have to reload the combat queue.

I think PointBlankSingle is only useful if you are tanking or have a pet tanking that you can stand behind of. Even then I think you're better off with a targeted non-range shot like BodyShot2.

The damage output on PBS2 is pretty good. But the HAM cost is quite high. Doubletap isn't range limited and has lower HAM costs.
