Thread: Pistoleers are exploiting?
According to Holo, they think there is an exploit with Pistoleers. That is the main reason why they see the increase in Novice Pistoleers.
According to Pistoleers, we see increase in Pistoleers because:
1.) Everyone starts with a pistol.
2.) Commando,Smuggler,BH requires pistol so why not get more skills for only 6 more points?
Also,we're still overpowering according to Holo.
Also, we suck according to Pistoleer.s
But my opinion is that it's so popular because this is Star Wars. In Star Wars people want to use blaster pistols and laser guns, not carbines (which sound like something out of WW I) or rifles (which sound "ordinary").
mostly #2.
At the same time Holo made this remark, a lot of the heavy gamers were just mastering their skills in BH pistol or smuggler, and wanted to use the xp with no drawback because they had a lot of skill points left over.
Also because, as much as it gets suck to get hit for 600 damage, getting hit for 1.5x or 2.0x makes it that much worse. At first, all the guns were pretty equal, and so people chose pistoleer because the good guns were available to pistoleers- namely the scatter and launcher. There were no laser carbines, LLC's, or T21's. The path to power was in the guns, not the special moves, because nobody had reached master pistoleer yet.
Regardless of the nerf, the new commando weapons and LLC and T21 will bring the pistoleers back to a normative ratio.
I still remember someone doing an action shot on a bolle and soloing it with a carbine in the early days of the game. I was amazed that I cuold do the same thing when I got pistolwhip, and was amazed again when I could do it with lowblow.
Now I am amazed at the damage output of my LLC, and will train as much as I can. I dont want to give up master pistoleer yet, because I still resort to it in times of need.
I just want a kind of reassurance that it will be worthwhile to keep, and I dont think that anything is forthcoming. It will be a while before the fix the moves, since the guns are easier to balance, apparently. For me, no problem, since I am capped for pistol XP even after master. For everyone who is not, I suggest a backup plan- get your unarmed and enjoy commando for a bit.
To quote Holo:
"
2) The reason that the pistoleer stats set off a red flag is because it suggests that there are exploits being used."
Do we have our faults? Yes. I could point out several changes I would like to see with the class, both for and against us, just to make balance a little better.
Do we need a bit of work? Yes. Ditto to above.
Are the other classes sending ‘noobs’ our way by talking about how great we are? Oh hell yes. When you start off as a brawler, and all you hear about are how ‘badass’ pistoleers are, of course, people are going to change.
As for us using exploits…if me running around, shooting a pistol at things, dying more times than I care to count while trying to grind out XP. Yes, I can solo red con…course I can do that as a brawler, too…with comparable levels of me/creature…it’s called smart playing. Generally, unless I know it’s slower than me with the pistol (anyone ever been caught by a Bantha when they didn’t want to?), I don’t touch Red/Yellow con. If all this is an exploit,
But don’t ask why we’re so damned popular when several of the other boards are out there screaming we are.
On Scylla, I started playing Pistoleer (well, Marksman that made it there) long before the nerf war started. Why? I like Gunslingers.
And I say here, what I say to everyone else. If we’re so damned powerful, why am I whipping out 700+ max end mind damage with a two handed sword and a level 1 mind attack when I can’t do that with Body Shot 2 from Pistoleer, and a high end Scout (I still prefer my baby) against an unarmored foe?
As for Pistol Whip 1, everyone got screwed with knockdowns. It’s the developers’ way of saying ‘Hey, try using strategy instead of spamming the same damned attack constantly’. Which every class (not every player, members of every class!) were guilty of. As for Disarm Shot 2 (I believe that was our previous AoE (that’s Area of Effect for those who don’t know) knockdown), it’s been stated that was never supposed to be one of our specials. Well, DA2 was, but the effect was supposed to have been Carbine, I believe?
I wouldn’t know, I’m not that far yet…[[winks]]
As for those who are complaining about Pistoleer’s being worthless because we don’t have those anymore? I don’t see it. We’re still damned effective in combat against the things we should be able to take out on our own. So what you were soloing Rancor before? You weren’t supposed to be able to.
Get over it. No, I’m not telling you how to feel, I’m telling you how I feel.
All of us had to grind our way TO pistoleer and up without those specials (unless you went for them first: I didn’t). We survived then, we’ll survive this.
