Answer to question in title: No.

Seriously ... pistolwhip isn't worth much anymore. The rest of our attacks are pointless. Even Fan Shot isn't worth it, if you run the numbers.

Dedicate your points towards the Marksmanship (for Accuracy) or Stances (for the speed). All other points are wasted.

Here was a recent rant I wrote:

With the exception of Health Shot 2 and Pistol Melee Defense 1, the Marksman Pistol tree outperforms every single one of the Pistoleer specials. Every. Single. One. That essentially means that a 0-0-0-1 Pistoleer is a Master Pistoleer with the exception of some speed and accuracy bonuses. If you see anyone proudly proclaiming their effectiveness with Stopping Shot, Fan Shot, Double Tap, or Body Shot 3, you can laugh at them and cause more damage per second with Advanced and Expert Pistol skills. This is not hyperbole. This is not a joke. With the exception of the aforementioned skills (obtained at Novice and at Stances I no less), nothing else is worthwhile. We were overpowered because of a first tier box. Nothing after that was valuable. Now that it has been fixed (and the KD nerf was a good fix gameplay wise), we have nothing left. There are no state effect skills (can't dizzy, can't stun, can't cause minor bowel discomfort), we have no ranged knockdown, we have no proprerly working armor piercing weapons (AP1 is our best of the best, and it doesn't work against unarmored opponents), we have no posture changing abilities, we have no disarming/panic shots, and certainly no way to match the damage output of our fellow weapon specific classes regardless of how quickly we can throw out specials (again because they offer only inferior damage per second to Marksman skills). All we have is one stackable bleed, one melee range knockdown with a timer, and 9differently namedrandom HAM skills that underperform those obtained with 24 skill points (that includes the purchase of Novice Marksman).

The nerf bat swung at us, knocked the two functioning members of the family from the dinner table and left us with Billy, the oldest kid who is slower, weaker, and dumber than his younger brother, and Frances, the girl with nine different personalities, each of which is a moron.

To answer the original posters question, I'd say Novice pistoleer would be the best 6 Skill points you ever spend if you are a pistol user. You get speed, accuracy, and a great special in the form of Healthshot2...which shouldn't be at novice IMHO.

With respect to the discussion regarding MeleeDefense1. I love it...when a mob charges you after a few fan shots and healthshots...MeleeDefense1, WarningShot/WarningShot/WarningShot....while you run in the other direction. Reset from max range, hurt it again (yes I know you wont be able to use KD for another 30 seconds). Its great.

Long time reader and first time posting.

Is there any reason to go past Novice Pistoleer?

I had planed on making a character that was a master gunfighter. By experimenting with pistols and observing pistoleers in group combat situtations, I noticed two things.

The only special attacks people seem to use is Body Shot 2 and Health Shot 2.

Everyone uses a FWG5.

Whats the point of going past novice in this skill tree? Are any of the high level skills worth getting?

The one skill I did pick up melee defense 1 sounded useful, but it hardly ever works and when it does the enemy bounces back up like a punching bag Is this a bug?

Well please feel free to post. Unless I am missing something, maxing out the BH pistol skill tree 4 boxes looks like a better return on XP investment.

The only pistoleer attacks I use are healthshot 2 and fanshot.I use bodyshot 2, suppression, and warning shot quite a bit too but they're marksman skills.

Pistolwhip isn't worth it's own ham cost anymore unless you just want to smack someone down for the satisfaction of it.

Stopping shot is deadly if youpickup bh skills in order to get +100 speed, but at that point why not just use eyeshot?

In a nutshell, yes some of the specials work. Most dont. Of the ones that do, most are useless.

no

pistol melee 1 was usefull before kd timer

thats it the rest of the specials are useless. its optimal if you want to be a gunfighter in swg to pick up either bh or smuggler pistol lines that is what soe is forcing me to do because i want to be a master gunfighter and actually be able to survive a while

You should read the correspondents list of issues. He outlines how just about all our specials lack function. Only a couple of our specials actually are effective (health shot 2, fan shot). The rest have drawbacks that are too great compared to the marksmen specials, so that's why we all use those.

Also, we all use FWG5 because the DX2 isn't working correctly (combo of bug/resource problem). Also, there are no other guns up the tree, so hopefully we'll get something sometime...

Pistol whip is still useful unless you have some other sort of knockdown. It's just only a little bit useful now.

Fan shot's decent.

The various accuracy mods might help, if you're into that sort of thing.

defense mods still don't seem to do much.
