I'm planning on buying one of each to try them out on certain creatures.

From what I've seen there are only a few creatures that these weapons would be optimal. On Dantooine, there are piket longhorns...ronto-like herbivores that have light armor and lower resistance to energy ....the SR Combat pistol would be best against them, theoretically.

I've heard that the tangle pistol is good in PVP against composite armor wearers (or anyone in lots of armor). There are probably NPCs that it would be useful for too and othercreatures that have no resist against stun. /examine things before you fight them, and choose the appropriate pistol.

The guns just don't appear to work very well.

The SR I have is naturally slow (3.1) and doesn't do incredible damage (maybe 130 or so). The whole AP system doesn't appear to work yet, and to top it off, the SR's ideal range is 0, and the one I have has a max range of 48. If you throw a 33% speed powerup on it and need to use point blank shots against an attacker, it's okay, but it's absolutely the worst pistol I've ever bought. I hear that tangle pistols are actually worse.

I think SR's at least may also be really hard to get a good slice on.

All the Tangle Pistols I have seen only have 100 Damage, +-3 on speed and only 3.5 wound chance. Even when I have hit a target it does not inflict the stun effect on them.

Ok, Tangle is stun, Striker is kinetic. The damage isn't great on the SR, Tangle or Striker but if you find a creature that is vuln to its damge type, depending on its AR, these guns are fantastic. If you want to go through the whole game never checking resists on a creature, and not understanding the AR system, then stick with the FWG5, DX2 and scout blaster.

Tangle pistol works good against people in pvp who wear composite armor. Most composite i have seen has no protection against stun damage.

if adversary use composite, one tangle is more efective than fwg5 i think, is the same that the curved sword (170) and vibroblade (135), the vibroblade is much better in pvp than curved, whateder whith low damage.

I dont prove the tangler, some weaponcrafter sell it at 20K, i think that is a abuse, when i find a good price i test it.

SR Combat owns anything (from a pistoleer point of view, of course) agaisnt some encounters (some Pubams, Meriks or Mantigrues) because of its AP and Energy dmg.

Tangle would be nice too if it gets AP one day (dream on...). Stun dmg is rarely resisted in PvP I may add but no AP is waste of time.

48m max for those and accuracy is about the DX2 one, figures...

Pardon the frustration, but don't you know how resists work? An arachne is AR2. It is stun vuln. When it is vuln to a damage type your weapon ignores its AR. So a tangle does full damage to an arachne. There are many other mobs just like this, with no stun resist and high AR.

To be a truly effective pistoleer you need an FWG5, Scout, Tangle, Striker, SR, and DX2. Each one of those guns will have a use in which it will outclass all your other options.

FWG5 = heat

Striker = kinetic

Tangle = stun

Scout = energy

SR = AP1 energy

DX2 = AP1 acid

That being said I have yet to see a striker or tangle pistol for sale. I am still looking...

I have Tangle and Striker pistols ... they suck. I've never seen a use for the Striker -- there is always a better choice even when you factor in the resists. I have a sliced Tanglefrom back when I had the bright idea of fighting AT-STs with a pistol ... against mobs or players I haven't used this either because it's a pretty awful gun despite its damage type.

The SR also sucks -- just use a Scout for energy.

In general the advice is good. I keep a Scatter, FWG5, and Scout on me at all times. If I didn't have the Scatters I'd take a DX2 or two out of my bank instead.
